I just bought a used 305 kit for my 300ex. when I installed it the rings were all in spec. We started it up and could here the piston in there slaping around, there was no smoke at all. Only problem was the slapin noise. We took it apart and we could slide the piston side to side in the cylinder(I know it not suppose to do that) but why didn't it smoke and what does it need, maybe thicker rings(if they are made) or maybe a new piston?

Also what is the valve to rocker clearance suppose to be for a TC cam? Right now we have it set to the stock specs.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like your cylinder is worn out of round, so it needs honed or bored, and by way you describe it, it's probably going to need bored. That means the piston and rings you have are now paper weights because they don't fit now, and they definitely won't fit after the cylinder is bored to correct the out of round problem. So you're basically going to do a complete rebuild, bored, piston, rings.
