i mite be getting a new quad in the spring. I am 15 years old and will b 16 then. I am 5'7 130. I have a 300ex rite now. I was thinking about a used 400ex. I was also thinking about a z400. But i like honda. I ride in trails, a few tracks, and a few hills. I was thinking about racing, but i wood do tht on my 300ex ( after many modifications ) .So it wood b my everyday quad. The only way im getting a 400ex is used in good conditon. Otherwise prolly buying new. Cuz ive heard tht the 400ex is getting outdated. Any help is appreciated.

I love my 450R, but going from a 300ex (even a heavily modded one) to a 450R is a big jump. If you were to get one, I'm sure you would love it for pretty much anywhere you ride. I am also sure that you would no longer want to race your 300ex no matter what you have done to it. I eat up 360's with lots of mods for breakfast!, no contest. Its going to out run and out handle the 300... period, no matter what you have done. 400ex's are nice quads for trails but are like you said...out dated for racing. Not to bash 400 owners, thats not my intent. I just know that if you want to race at all, you might as well get a 450. Its a night and day difference. For trails, drop a tooth on your front sprocket and do a couple modds, and you won't have any complaints. If I were you, I would decide what kind of riding you do most and what you want to do most, then go from there. The z400 isn't a bad quad either, there good for trails and some racing also.

im also thinking of switching from a 300ex to a 450r around december or january. i ride a lot of trails and we are getting into racing. i want to look into getting a 06 leftover. i think it would be a good idea. i would just go all out and get the 450 and not the 400ex or z400. the 450 is gonna be a whole different kind of bike than the 400ex and the z400 is a suzuki and you dont want that. you cant really do anything to a 400ex that would make it compete with the 450 unless you are lookin to drop in some serious jack.

if it was me and you were looking to get into racing buy a used 450r with some suspension work, i mean if moneys tight go that way but if youve got money then just buy a brand new one, i mean i have an 05 i wish i would have gotten a used 450r with a good shock and arms set up, but if your not getting into racing you have no worries
