As other have already pointed out, Cummin's is not a german company....
...German engines will run circles around most if not all American motors when it comes to engineering! Thats a fact, not an opinion!

What I like about the Dodge and Cummins is that in an 06 3500 truck comparason, the dodge was the smalles of the three, but is equal to or out preforms the other two. The dodge only has a 5 cylinder cummins in it where as the ford and chevys both have V-8's.

"Cummins Inc., a global power leader, is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. Headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, (USA) Cummins serves customers in more than 160 countries through its network of 550 Company-owned and independent distributor facilities and more than 5,000 dealer locations. Cummins reported net income of $550 million on sales of $9.9 billion in 2005."
What you're thinking of is the DaimlerChrysler company (which owns Dodge and uses Cummins engines). DaimlerChrysler is run by the Germans. It's the country in which it's stocks are run and the chairman is Dr. Dieter Zetsche, who is the goofy looking guy you see in those commercials. The Cummins engines are made in the US along with Dodge vehicles.

i think cummins is the best diesel out there...
the problem is that is it in a dodge... the dodge tranny is notorious for being absolutely horrible, and the whole truck in general is not well made...
i have a buddy that drives f-250s and 350s with cummins in them... he has two right now, and had a dually that he sold a few months back...
i heard a rumor that dodge didnt renew their contract with cummins, and so will no longer have that diesel... ford owns cummins, and supposedly in future years ford will have cummins in their trucks... anybody else hear anything abou this? or is it just a rumor

I also have to add .... JOEX , you're a brave man to type in www.cummins.com .... the last time I looked for info about the new Can Am quad , I typed in Can Am.com and well , let's just say , I was soooo glad they had a warning page first .
No way in hell I'd have the guts to try www.cummins.com without knowing 110% that it would bring me to a website about the company !!!!

Well if he was truely disappointed , he could always check out www.can-am.com . Their warning page said something about nude male oil wrestling . :huh
All I know , is that I couldn't find the "X" in the corner of the screen fast enough to click it off before someone walked in the room and thought something bad.
Can-Am (ATV Company) should really think about buying the rights to that website name , cuz I'll guarranty I wasn't the only one that that they were going to be looking at the new Renegade .

Yep, I looked through all of the Jeeps and the optional engines, no Cummins available.
Don't you love it when people do absolutely no research and then get upset when you don't believe them?

Ford truck diesel tops Chrysler's entry - Ford medium-duty truck engine produces 210 horsepower, compared to Chrysler engine's 175 horsepower - Brief Article
Ward's Auto World, Dec, 1993 by Stephen E. Plumb

DASEC's Challenge
This could be the...
Ford Motor Co. beefs up its truck power with a new 7.3L V-8 diesel engine supplied by Navistar International Transportation Corp. With 210 hp produced at 3,000 rpm, the engine beats Chrysler Corp.'s 5.9L Cummins Turbodiesel on the new Dodge Ram -- which puts out 175 hp at 2,500 rpm -- for top honors in a medium-duty diesel-engine application. Both engines generate 420 ft.-lbs. (570 Nm) of torque.
"If we drag-raced with a (Chrysler) T-300, we'd be waving goodbye," smiles Edward W. Hermann, Ford light-truck diesel-programs manager. Ford claims the direct injection (DI) turbocharged engine is the first medium-duty powerplant to utilize full electronic controls. The engine also features a forged steel gear train with a high-pressure oil pump that uses lube oil to drive unit injectors and a gear-driven camshaft. The engine will be produced at Navistar's Indianapolis plant (see Oct. '93 WAW, p. 57).
With the help of the new engine, Ford predicts U.S. sales of diesel-powered vehicles will climb back up near the 140,000-per-year level achieved in the late-1980s. Through the first 10 months of 1993, Ford sold 78,000. Last year the company sold 80,247 diesel trucks. Traditionally, Chrysler has sold about half as many diesels as Ford.
Mated with a manual transmission, the new engine bows next spring on F-250 pickups, E-250 Econoline vans and all F-350 and F-Super Duty models. An automatic transmission will be added in time for 1995 model vehicles next summer.
Ford has bought engines from Navistar since 1983. Although Ford owns 14% of Cummins Engine Co. Inc., Cummins has an exclusive deal with Chrysler for diesels.

Im also a cummins fan, and i went to the truck pull and watched his brother pull wit his cummins. Im not bashing on any trucks here, but chevy wasnt doing well at all. One chevy broke the tire all the way off. The tire was hanging by the tie rod. Ford was doing well. The only problem i seen with them was one time a older model broke the rear drivshaft. Dodge was doing very well. Like 2004400exa said, his bro won, which was just the heavy class(9500 lbs. class), another cummins won the 7500 lbs. class, and 2004400exa's bro got 2nd in that. Chevy won the 5500 lbs. class, beating out a dodge for the finals, and beating a ford for the win. Now i know some of you guys have other opinions on this, but this was what the finishes were. Maybe it just wasnt chevy or fords night, but i guess dodge has some power.
I wont buy anything else but a dodge. But thats just my taste.
