View Full Version : cutting airbox lid

ok im on a tight budget, im trying to get some free horsepower out of my 06 450r. would i be alright if i cut the air box hrc style add install about a 152 mj (thats the biggest on i have laying around). not going to mess with stock exhaust, i think it sound like crap without core. i already put the 152mj in and took air box lid off, it ran good. i dont want to harm the engine, too lean or rich.

its hard to say what the exact jetting is for your setup but i would say you are on the right track. as far as gettting free power removing the stock baffler will help.

I recently put a 160 in,with a chop job on the lid to copy the HRC,and the hrc endcap..Put the air-fuel to 2 and a 1/4 out and it was fine..Oh also put a 06 CRF needle in it too.

ok i cut the lid hrc style and put in a 152mj. it runs good, but how will i know if the air-fuel screw needs adjusted or not, dont want to take chance of running lean.

i run a 185 or 190 mj

no air box, velocity intake with bolt on k&n

hard starting..and bad hesitation when throttle is stabbed

anybody have a HRC end cap for sell. will the exhaust sound better with the HRC end cap compared to just removing baffle, which i thought sounded good at idle but to high pitch when revvvved.

cruise ebay for the cap..I picked up an 05 pipe with a brand new endcap for 18 shipped........I dont think anyone noticed it had the hrc endcap....I also made a endcap out of a 250ex s.a...It sounded just as good,but with a little more bottom end than the hrc... The HRC endcap sounds good,not obnoxious like a hmf...
