I long time ago i was in some forum, and some people were talking about taking the reverse gear out of a 300ex engine, so they could install a 6th gear. Anybody know anything about this?

It can be done. I forget who does this mod. I think GT thunder but don't quote me. Sounds to me that you would go through gears real quickly.

I don't know how this works or anything, but what i was thinking was just make the 6th gear where i can pull it with a 330 or maybe a 350cc kit, and get a good aftermarket rev limiter so i can rev alil higher. Next time i rebuild i wanna look into the 6th gear option for more top speed. I like running 18in tires for some reason and if i just had 1 more gear i'd love it. I have it geared up a bit with the 18in tires though. 14/36

I heard of TC stuffing 6 gears in a 400ex tranny.


My guess is that it would cost over 2k to have it done.

With the money it cost you to put a 6th gear in a 300ex, you could sell your 300ex and buy a cheap used 450 or a modded 400. The reason TC used to do this was it was in the late 80's early 90's when the 250x/300ex was the dominate 4-stroke quad, so they did everything to sqeeze every last drop of performance out of the motor. This was before the 400's, 450's. Now alot of places wont even work on them, and if it is, they wait untill there is no more 450 stuff lined up. If you looking for power out of a 300ex i would call GT thunder or TC racing.

anythign is possible, but not always practical.
