Hi,

Noticed a slight clicking on my 04 450r today, i thought it could have been my reklouse clucht needing adjusting. I stopped the bike to talk to my bro in law. When i restarted, the kickstart didn't fully retract and the noise got a little bit louder. Stopped the quad and tried again with same results but the noise was really loud. The kickstart stays about 2' from finish position, any ideas before i spen loads at a dealer??

Thanks

take your kickstart leaver apart and greese up everything. makes it swing in and out smooth as butter

While his motor is running and is making noise greasing a kickstart wont fix that sounds like yout have engine problems.

I think the noise is from the kickstarter not going all the way back where it should. i would try what i said.

i have had the kick starter stary out right after the machine is started and it makes a horrible sound untill you put it back where is should be. greeseing it should solve the problems

oh i thought u ment the motor sound had nothing to do with the kickstart. yes if the kickstart doesnt return to the oringinal spot while its running it will make a noise

One time I was riding and the oil drain plug came out. we stoped for a minute and when i cranked it back up my kickstart would not come all the way back. i got off and looked and there was a puddle of oil where my quad was sitting. plut oil back in it and it worked fine, just a suggestion, but check the oil in crankcase, might be low and getting hot.

right next to the clutch cover theres a philips head bolt take that out and put tranny fluid in the top after u drain it. and when the fluid comes out that little hole is the proper level to have

did someone take apart your right side? It sounds to me the clicking is as czrider263 said that the kick starter lever is not disengaging. This happened to me, shamefully admitting, when I was rebuilting mine I inadvertantly mis-aligned the indicaor marks on the kick starter spindle and the kick starter racket gear. Doing this will cause the spring tension to be less and make the kick starter not pull back far enough. this was the mechanical part of it. Your problem may not be this if the right cover was not removed.

Had the same problem when i rebuilt mine. if you've had the right side off check the tension of the spring if it isn't tight make sure all of your gears are aligned.

one tooth off on a gear or the spring is in the wrong spot.
