Im going to order some tires tomorrow. Ive decided on getting kenda Klaws Mx tires in 18/10.5/8 rear and 20/6/10 fronts. Is this a good size for MX? Also rim wise I was thinking of going with Douglas .190 rims front and rear. What offset do I need to fit a honda 450r. One last question. should I go beadlocks? Are they that necessary? All help is appreciated

Are these the correct rims for offset and what not? I have them picked out on Rocky mountain atv so they should be correct.

Front-4/144 Douglas .190 Wheel 10X5 3.0 + 2.0

Rear- 4/110 4/130 Douglas .190 Wheel 8X8 3.0 + 5.0

Edit. One last question. Will my stock lugnuts work or do I need new ones?

That size is what most people run for MX. As for as the rims go, the .190's should suit you well. A 2/3 offset will make you wider, but you will feel more feedback though the handlebars in the rough stuff. You will be better off with a 3/2 wheel or 4/1 wheel. It won't be as wide, but it will handle better.

Plus, if you were to get wider a-arms in the future, you would already be setup with a wheel/tire combo.

Beadlocks help out alot on the rear, and allow you to run a lower air pressure. Most people don't run beadlocks on the front, for the sake of saving weight.

EDIT: Depending on which wheel you decide, your stock lugs will work if you turn them around to the flat side. If decide to go all out and get hipers, you will need to get different lugs.

I realize beadlocks are the way to go. Im just having a hard time justifying the extra money right now when I cannot ride my 450r to its full potential yet. Would they really make a noticeable difference that a novice rider could feel? Also Can anyone answer my lugnut question?

You can't really "feel" the difference, it's just there to prevent the wheel from popping off the bead; in a collision in the first turn for example (experience)

Is it really that hard to pop a bead off a rim?

Edit- so stock lugs will work? Curious if there are aftermarkets I can buy. Anyone have a link?

Well, if a bumper from another quad hits it in the right spot...it's fairly easy to pop off.

I would save up and get HiPers, and the stock lugnuts will work, even on HiPers you just have to use the flat side and get washers.

Hipers would be nice but im working on a limited budget and hipers are 3 times the cost Of what im looking at right now.
