I just purchased the 2006 model about three months ago and about two weeks ago it started smoking, I brought it back to the dealer and they told me the piston, rings, and valves are shot from not draining the plug after going through water which I did, so now I'm screwed because my warranty does not cover it, I'm thinking of going with 440 big bore kit, is it worth it? how much more is this going to cost me rather than just restoring the motor to stock?

I would raise holy hell at that dealership. Tell them that there are over 50,000 people that you could tell not to go there if they didn't fix your quad UNDER WARRENTY.

Its bullsh*t when dealers do that. Its a fricken warrenty and they get re-embursed for it anyway.

yeah I know, I've been fighting with them for over a week and I've gotten no where, I just figured now that I have it open I might as well do the 440 kit I just dont know how much of a pain it will be

you can find the kits for around $240. then pay someone the bore the cylinder and press the sleeve in.

i would do a big bore kit, performance everything. BUT i would not have that dealer do it. i would bring it to a motorsports shop.

I would go with the 426 kit bro. You can use your stock sleeve and go with 11:1 compression to keep reliability. Ive seen 426's roast a 440, but a lot of that is craftsmanship of the work. If you get the 440, port/polish your head and get a stage 2 hotcam. Make sure the porting work is done very well (really do your research on this) on a flow bench. Just my 2 pennies.

thanks for your help, everyone, I'm still getting into riding so I dont know much just the basics, I've been looking at big bore kits on ebay, they come with the stage 2 hotcam, gaskets, rev box, and a namura cylinder sleeve, it comes to $330, I know I need to get a jet kit, anything else recommended? as far as the 426 kit the dealership told me that the cylinder has to bored anyway so I figured on doing the 440

The dealer don't know **** bro. You can bore your stock sleeve and press it back in to make a 426.

if they are any good websites for the big bore kit please tell me, I want to do this right and get all the necessary parts, I dont need it to be insanely fast I just want a reliable motor, I know I'm not going higher than 11:1 compression

Don't let the dealer get off that easy! It's a friggin warrenty! Raise hell, they will give in eventually. You don't want to be paying for a valve train if you don't have to, if they're supposedly "shot" after such a short period of time.

They are obligated to honor the warrenty during the entire warrenty period.

Will you still get alot of power if I got a 10:8 comp piston? I dont want any higher because I dont want to run race fuel, too expensive.

With a 440 you pretty much have to have heavy duty studs installed or you're going to have issues.

I would also reccomend the 426 route. ;)

A properly built 426 can be amazing bro... Later on, if you decide you want to, you can bore the cylinder and press in a new sleeve to make a 440. Something to think about. :p

I know what you mean... might as well go with a larger bore when you got er' cracked open. You will be happy with whatever you decide to do...I'm sure of it. Git R Done

Go with the 426. Then, when it starts smoking again, you can bore it out and do the 440. Otherwise, if you do the 440 right out of the gate and it starts smoking again, you'll be redoing everything.

I would probably just bore the stock sleeve and throw an oversize piston in it.

Less work and it should be just as reliable as it was stock.

do you have to take it 2 your selling dealer or will all honda dealers honor it? if so take it to another dealer.

not sure if it has to be the dealer purchased from... but I would rip them a new hole if they didn't fix mine if it was under warrenty.

There is no way they would cover it under warranty no matter how bad you get on they're back. Warranty covers stuff that the company messed up which causes premature failure. From what i understand he got water in with the oil and didnt change it enough to get it all out. There was still water mixed in there which caused a lack of lubrication and fried his topend. That's not their fault.
