04 vs 06 Bladwin piston kit

just thought I'd provide a few pictures of the Baldwin 14:1 piston comparison from the 04 450R to the 06 450R.

The reason I have both of these pistons is that Kilabanshee and czrider263 bought these pistons to be installed into their upcoming builds.

nice lateral gas ports.

It appears that the 04 piston had scavening channels on the piston dome that were removed on the 06 version. I wonder if this was due to patents or the way the dome shape will change with different diameter pistons of similiar compresssion ratios.

check out how deep the piston valve fly cutouts are.

I do believe both pistons should make great piston.

It will be great to see so I can have a better comparison against my 13:1 JE builds and my 14:1 Baldwin builds

good info. just for comparison i have 2 pistons that i ran in my 05 450r. both are stock bore and 12.25:1 pistons. both have thermal coated domes and moly coated skirts. the used one is a 2--ringer, the new one is a 3-ringer. chad, if you want to keep this a baldwin thread thats not a problem. i can easily remove them.....

Hey chad both pistons look A+.

Is there any reson the cut outs are bigger on the 06.

a bigger diameter piston will affect the dome shape also the amount of piston wobble/tilt on a bigger diameter piston.

i think mark baldwin told me ~353grams for the 06 piston kit.
