It'll go anywhere from 64-70 stock topped out... But ya, it will get up hills great! I do a lot of hill climbing, and it boots right up every hill in 2nd gear (I dropped a tooth so it doesn't bog down)

That depends, look at his mods for instance, he's got it bored, port and polished and other goodies... But it depends on sprocket sizes, and everything... But then again it isn't for sure that the box was precisely correct.

What are you cecking with? If its your speedo, more then likely that is what is off, not the speed box.

This seems to be a repeating, never ending topic.

Pretty much, it depends on your mods and your gearing.

Stock '99-'04 400EX w/15 tooth front: ~ 67mph
Stock '05-'06 400EX w/14 tooth front: ~ 55mph.

I can vouche for the gearing/speed difference. My '04 came stock with a 15 tooth and I recently went down to a 14 tooth for track use. Last weekend I went out on a trail ride with the 14t and I lost all my top end. My dad on his stock 400 was pulling away from me steadily. I estimate I lost about 10-12mph easy.

i dont think there is that big of a difference between the older and newer models in top speed....12 miles per our is alot of difference

I took my 416ex to the silver lake dunes. It did alot of bogging, the sand takes alot of power. I could climb ever hill there, just hand to donw shift alot. My banshee is WAY BETTER!!!

I'm #29 and I was in fourth gear when ever I crossed the 1/8 mile line. One slip is time trials, and the other is eliminations.

Theyll top out at 65-70 mine is at 69.2 on a gravel road using my gps. They will definitely climb any hill silver can throw at the ex.

120 MPH in 1st gear....

If you are dropping it out of a plane from 10,000 feet! J/K!

Top speed should not matter for hill climbing, the more torque the better.

Well before I modified my 2004 It would have taken a mile to top it out in 5th gear. Now I never go below 4th on the gravel gravel hard packed roads. These roads have some pretty knarly corners and then they break into long straights (1/4 mile or so). If I am hitting near 70 mpg you could have fooled me. I would say closer to 50 mph. I guess I will have to strap down my gps to my 400ex and see what it has to say. It has proven to be a bit unrealiable though (it's a $400.00 gps unit).

I am not saying on flat pavement that a 400 can't go 67 mph.. I just think you better have a lot of room and a strong wind at your back.

Now don't everyone jump on me... I am talking stock gearing and stock rev box.

If you want to see a banshee run well over 100mph in an 1/8th mile go to www.wickedatv.com and download one drag racing

yeah the place i go race at the banshee are runnin like a 600 street bike down the track. It's funny though, one guy runs a 250 ninja every week. He kills the competition in bracket racing. It won't spin nor will it go very fast. he's topped out half way down the track.

stock banshee is about 71 if you can find a place to wind it out.

stock EX is about 67 if you can find a place to wind it out. Motor mods dont make your top speed higher, it is altered with gearing and tire sizes.

Honestly who cares about top speed anyway? That proves nothing at all.

I got to 80 with 22's and a 15t front. I have a HMF pipe and filter. I checked it on GPS, but I was going with a 30 or so tailwind. It did top the motor out. I run 22 paddles with a 15t front, and I can get up anything without a run in 2nd gear. If I can run at it, I can keep it in 3rd. I climbed the biggest hill at winchester in 3rd.
