My 450's stock. Im looking for lots of low and midrange and some topend on a budget. I Mostly ride MX. Im ordering a 13t front sprocket which will be complimenting some 18/10/8 rears and 20/6/10 fronts. Im also looking into exhaust. Again I want something that pulls real hard down low through the mid but I still want some topend. HMF, Rossier, Dasa? Im also looking into cams. HRC cam any good or are there better options? Hopefully im off to a good start. Any suggestions welcome

Hotcam Stage 1 will give you tons of bottom/mid, will sacrifice some top
Hotcam Stage 2 will give you tons of mid/top, will sacrifice some bottom, not much
HRC Cam will give you tons of mid and freaking insane top end, weaker bottom end

Between HMF / Rossier / Dasa, if you want bottom end I would go with either HMF or Dasa. A lot people say Rossier has a pretty weak bottom.

I have the HRC and I just bought an HMF full sys last night.

here is my setup. I think it works really well.

13T front
39T rear
Hotcams Stage 1 Cam
JE 11.5:1 Piston
Magnum Rev Box
HRC Style Air Box Lid (Custom made)
HMF Full System
HRC Needle at 3rd clip and 185 Main Jet

she runs good.

Has anyone tried any crf cams? What years will work and does anyone know what type of cams they are. Ex- bottom mid or topend. Also what stocking gearing 14/ 39?

my buddy has a 13t, uni filter, stage 2 hot cams, and a sparks exhaust and that thing has got so much torque its unbelievale. stock i rode it and my 400 had more low end than it, but once he piped it that thing REALLY woke up. its a great setup for the woods.

That will get you where you want to go if you want to spend 1500 bucks. The dasa pipe with stg 2 hotcams seems to be a hot setup.

13t with 18 inch tires is geared WAY TOO LOW.
HC2 with DASA will work perfectly.

i think the crf cams are the same if not a little better tuned for the atv motor. i love my hrc cam but it is not a low end cam. i say just do a full pipe, filter (with outerwears), no lid and jet it and see where it takes you. if you are still looking for more get the cam then. for bottom end i hear the shorty TC pipes are awsome.

What makes you say that?

going with smaller tires in the rear changes your gearing, so it would be very low gearing

I realize that. But it seems like a lot of people also run a 13t sprocket. Hell the 06 has a 13t. I do realize it has a whole new trans and been regeared internally but the 05's gearing seems tall I thought a 13t would go nicely. Maybe not? Anyone run 18's and a 13t?

The thing is, if you do motor work... Pipe and cam, The extra power you gain compensates for the tall gearing. I know that my first mod was a 13t front sprocket and when i got my exhaust and Hotcam stage 2 i was like letting off the clutch and immediately shifting to 2nd. I put the 14 back on and it was so much better. I would say that with 18's on the rear, 14 will still be low geared especially with motor work.

04-06 CRF cams are the same as the 06 HRC cam.

well I have an 04 with a 12t front sprocket and stock rear sprocket with the hrc cam and a full LRD exhaust and let me tell you, you will love the tourqe and it also has top end because thats what the hrc cam is its a top end cam you can feel it just ripping when you hit 4th gear and I ride everything from 300ft drags to trails and almost exclusivly the dunes. You will be riding in your upper gears alot more because of shorter shift and rev limits on the motor because of the 12t but its fun, I could start out in 3rd gear if I wanted to when I drag race at the dunes but its a little too much wear on the motor to come out of the hole at such a high RPM.........

I have the sparks aggresive drop in. I think it is the same as the 02 crf. I was a huge improvement over stock on the bottom. I love my set up. If you want bottom go with the 02 crf and sparks exhaust

yeah i'll second that. i race woods and my first bike had an 02 crf cam with 13:1 wiseco and a good clean up port job with an HMF and it ran very good. it had power everywhere. the one i have now is stock, other than the HRC kit and a sparks pipe. when i put a crank in it over the winter i'll put another 02 crf cam in with some clean up port work and a 14:1 baldwin piston. that should be enough to keep up with the 06's. anyway, i think that the 02crf cam is probably the best all around drop in cam there is. oh and i run 14/38 gears with 20inch tires on both bikes. it keeps me from shifting back and forth so much in the woods. i can just stay in one gear and rev the hell out of it or bog it down and use the clutch a little if i need to, plus you can really haul *** on the big end.
