when i try to start my 400ex the starter makes a spining noise for like 5 seconds then cruches and graps. the the motor will turn over about 1 or 2 stokes then slips off again and stay spining. any ideas will be great. thanks

my 2001 416 does that exact same thing, it will take forever to start sometimes, but if u do it on the right strokre it fires right up. i was told it is the start clutch?

sounds like a starter clutch...

Starter clutch is going bad. I would fix it before you ruin something like the gears

where can i find a start cluth? is it hard to replace?

im on my 4th starter clutch, they are simple to replace. GET a flywheel puller! it will save you alot of time and possibly money. they dont cost but like 15 dollars

i ge mine from honda, they arent much
