I would say the stg 1 or stg 2

the stg 1 is a better all round cam the stg 2 creates more mid to top but not as much bottom end torque as the stg 1. The HRC cam is creates a lot of mid to top but has a significant bottom end loss.

send the head off to be ported and use whatever cam they suggest.

If you want to try something different, I would suggest the Baldwin XC Cam. I am going to be getting one pretty soon for my 06 and I have the full HMF as well.

you'll be happy with either 1.

i'm pretty sure that the baldwin xc cam is just an 02crf cam. i had one in my 04 and did some measurements on it to see what it really was because baldwin doesn't grind cams and it didn't look like a web. that motor had good power everywhere though.

stage 2 hotcam all the way in an 06. similar bottom end to the HRC with more top end pull....

Colby is right. Go with the Stage 1 cam. You'll love if for XC.
This is what i run....

Hotcams Stage 1
JE 11:5 to 1
Magnum Revbox
HMF Sport Series Full Exhaust
HRC Airbox Lid (Custom made)
HRC Needle and Main Jet (185)
13 Tooth Front
39 Tooth Rear

This setup is great for woods riding. Smooth low end torque that just keeps on pulling.

i assume you've ridden both cams with identical setups. since, you know the stage 2 is better for XC.

all i know is, i've ridden a few 06's.....one with an hrc kit.....and i still like my 05 off the bottom. I'm not saying mine produces more hp.....just saying that i like my low end better.

yep, i have

as for the 05 vs 06, i like my 05 better as well, it just feels better to me, might just be because im more used to it, but i dunno, as for your low end vs the hrc, obviously you will have more low end, the hrc is high duration, so its a top end cam, the stg2 hotcam is similar to the 02crf cam, large top end gain, with little to no loss on the bottom, with gains almost everywhere throughout the power band
