neither have reverse, but alot of people have been having problems with the 06's like they cannot take the baffle out of the stock muffler or air box lid off without rejetting and have been having trouble witht he starter. if you can try to pick up a cheap 04 or 05 like i did i got mine rode 4x's for $4000 in great condition. But the 06's do have more power from what i hear but the electric version is heavier.

i would go with elecrtic. the added weight isnt enough to give up the convinence of the electric start. even some pros are opting for the electtric start. and as far as probs with them go dont worry about it, most of them dont have any probs. spend the extra money and go for the ER.

If I could go back I would get a "r" my "er" was in the shop for the starter after 6 weeks. Now its acting up again. I am pissed I wanted a kicker and the dealer assured me the electric start was "flawless". Buy a Honda just get a kicker. Now you should be able to buy a 06 as a letover pretty cheap if you look around.

The e start is the way to go imo. When you get it, just turn the idle up a little and it will almost eliminate hot start troubles. Wouldn't trade mine for anything.

You need to rejet any quad that you take the airbox lid off of. Anytime you change air in or out you need to compensate with more fuel. Same goes for the baffle, but its usually such a small difference that jetting wouldn't be noticed.

Also you wouldn't even notice the extra weight on the ER versions of the 450R's from the battery so dont let weight be a deciding factor.

you beat me to it. I would get a 450er diffrent gearing, plus they have fixed the starter problem. They have came out with new upgrades for the starters

You always will, people are more likely to speak of there problems than there good luck.
ON that note.... I have had my er for 9 months ride in the woods always stoping and starting (making new hills.) and not one issue with this quad Alot of peaple spin there starter for more than 5 seconds at a time. and that is bad.!!!!!!:eek2: I would recomend the ex for the woods if you need reverse.!!!:D

I gotta be honest I don't see the big deal about the electric strter. These 450rs are so easy to kick start it's not even funny. Plus you can get brand new 05's for cheap as dirt. Not saying the 06 isnt a badass machine. If I was to get an 06 I would still go for the kicker.

The biggest thing wrong with the 450ER starter is the rider. When starting the quad most peoples first instinct is to gas er' a bit. But that is a BIG NO NO on this ride. Givin it gas when turning it over makes it kick back on the starter and with the high compression it damages the gears and such.

The biggest problem with the starter is 1, it's slow, and 2, it won't start worth a crap when it's hot. I will be taking mine in for the updated recoil gear Honda came out with.

Agreed. You have my vote. Try racing a XC race get stuck in the mud and finally get it out and then you have to kick start your quad. I love electric start!:o
