Does anybody else think the toolbox tube thing on the 400 is about as useful as a hammer with no head? I mean good idea but, How do i water proof it?(lot of water and mud where I ride.)
Any help would mean a lot. And I got time too cuz, at my coming home party I tore a ligament in my left ankle. Now all i can do is sit in the garage and stare at the 400. I'm off it for 1 more week. Also gotta work on the wifes Kodiak, Stepson(JACK*#*) couldn't handle it and hit a building! Lots of schratches and bent the right rear a-arm.

I'm not a big fan of the tube ether, I had trouble with the cap falling off, so I taped it, duct tape or electrical tape, and I think it kind of helps with the water and mud getting in.

I took mine off too. Figured I would just carry the tools I need in my camelback.

I didn't take mine off, some kid just whacked the back of me, and it just ripped it off. But I like it better without it.

After loosing two tool kits due to the lid coming off, I removed mine and shaved the mount off. Looks cleaner--no more irritations due to losing my tool kit.

I lost the cap within 5 minutes of riding the first day I got it. They rest of the tube got riped off by I stick I believe.

I took mine off right after I got mine. If anything happens when I'm riding I just either get it towed back to the truck or push it. I would rather not loose the useless tool that come in it anyway. The tools have a certain use for them but not a real mechanical use.

I took a screw and put it through the cap so mine stays on well, easy to get to also:blah:

Its a honda you don't need a tool box:p To make the cap tight wrap it with electrical tape before you put the cap on.

Buddy with the KFX400 carries all the tools for us. It mounts in a hole under the seat. Much better setup than my 400ex thats for sure.

Is there anyway i can make a toolbox inside the airbox?

I'm sure its possible with some fabrication. You could stick a little pouch of stuff in there but it will hinder alittle airflow.

all you have to do to solve the lid problem is drill a hole in the lid through the box and slide a codder pin in there and bend the end out a little. Lid cant fall off then. Umm water proof just dont put your SMOKE in there. : )

try applying some electrical tape to the threads, so that it seals.

If i go on a long trail ride i will take the bag that the tool kit comes in and put my own tools in it and stick it in the airbox, i run a lid but no water cup on the bottom, so i have no problems with them bouncing around or falling out.
