whats the difference

I got a 89 motor with a hinson cover the kicker doesnt hit put the same cover on a 86 and the kicker hits. is there a difference between the 89 and the 86 I dont know about

Yes there is a defference, I'm not exactly shure what it is though.

If you look at the fiche the 86 has a spacer that slides on the kicker shaft to take up the space under the clutch side cover. The later versions have the spacer built into the cast on the inside of the clutch cover and only require a washer to shim.

the spindle must be a 1/4 inch longer or something If I shim the back of the spindle to make the kicker clear the cover that makes the spindle gear hit the clutch gear. any body got a 89 kicker assembly they want to sell.

88/89 kicker shafts have a spacer built-in to it also.
