where do you change the gear oil in a 250ex? i see a large screw on top of the shaft drive that i think might be it.also, how many hours of riding/ time should you wait until changing it. i heard from someone that you should change it once a year, but i'm checking up on it in case that's wrong.what transmission oil should i use?. i bought my 250ex last november so it will need to be done soon.

If you still have your owners manual, it's on page 98.
In a nutshell, the big nut on the top is the filler hole. The drain hole is the smaller nut at the back, just at the end of the skidplate. There should be a hole in the skidplate for it. (If you've got an aftermarket skid, you may have to take it off) Now, there's another bolt facing the left side of the quad near the bottom of the gear case. That's the level check hole. The oil should reach the bottom of the check hole. (I think you may have to stick a finger in to check the level. :huh ) It says it takes 3.4 US ounces. It recommends Honda Shaft Drive Oil or equivalent HYPOID GEAR OIL SAE 80. The recommended interval is 100 hours riding or 2 years. Hope this helps!
