Ok, i'm stuck. I'm trying to get my taillight apart to replace the bulb. There are no screws and i've tried everything imaginable to seperate the red lense from the white back part. I don't see any screws. Am i missing somthing?? Oh, it's a stock light off an 05 400ex. Thanks!

yeah, its like a car light. The bulb disconnects from the whole unit and pulls right out.

I understand what you're saying, but mine must be "special". There is no twist out socket like a car. The back piece seemse completely sealed and there is only three plug in electrical connections off to one side for the harness to plug into. For the life of me i can't figure this stupid thing out. I've tried 20 different methods of trying to pry these two halves apart!

Is it an 05 or 06? They have LED tail light assemblies unlike the traditional incandescent bulb used in the 99-04. If there is something wrong with the LED tail light the whole thing probably has to be replaced.

Are you sure there is somthing wrong with the actual light though? LEDs don't fail very often.

Can't get the pic's to post. No, it's not an LED. It's definately a bulb in there. It's a 2005.

99-04 are different from 05-06. 05 is LED.

Strange...i have neither. I see what you mean that the 05 is a LED, but mine's not that. Mine is shaped like the older style except with a whole different harness. I just can't imagine that it's not stock b/c of the harness and connector to the light. Worst comes to worst if i break it i'll have to buy a new one, preferably the LED. Thanks everyone for your help, i appreciate it.

I tried earlier to attach a pic on the "attach file" part of the reply box. It was a .jpeg, but it didn't go through. Any tips?

Might have to make the pic smaller.

There is a thread in the "How to" section for posting pics.
Here it is:

Are you the original owner of this quad? If not, maybe the previous owner put a light from a different quad on there.

I am the second owner of the quad and it is possible that it is a replacement tail light. I've since replaced the assembly. Ida400ex was insightfully replying to a post from July. Thanks for the link on posting pic's. I'll take a look at it.

ida400ex i'm not somkin anything. You have the 05 with the LED light much betterlight, but when they go out you have to replace them. This can cost a lot of money, but if you arn't able to buy the expensive light right now and you are going to a place that requires a rear light, you can alway use the $2 markerlight (at Wal-mart) until you can get a new LED, as for me the $2 light works just fine.
