I am about to order a HMF slip-on and a hotcam. I am still on the stock bore/stroke and compression but I will probably do a 416 w/high compression piston whenever it needs it.

Should I go ahead and go with a stage 2 or stay stage 1?

How bad will my low end power be with a stage 2 compared to the stage 1?

I would definetaly go with the stage 2, I run the stage 2 with the stock bore and have never regretted it. I haven't raced anyone with the stage 1 so i can't tell you the low end difference, but it can't be that noticeable. The top end increase is well worth the low end loss!!

How bad is the low end loss? I ask because I still do a good bit of trail riding.

Ya, if youre going to get a 416 kit one day you might as well get a stage 2 then...

I got the old stage 2 and a wiseco 11:1 426 piston and my bike rips! I gained power everywhere, no loss!

I may just go ahead and get the stage 2. Because I will eventually up the compression and CC's.

No point in having to buy a cam again.

right now im getting my motor built and whats getting doine to it is: Bore to 416 weisco piston 11:1 compression stage 1 cam stage 2 port and polish tranny and head getting rebuilt and im also getting an HMF slip on. I talked to the guy about what i do and i he really recomnded the stage 1 cam for me cause all i do is trail ride and i might hit a track once or twice a year. It costs money but it will be worth it ill let yo guys know how it turns out. It also depends on where u ride.

Snow...how is your EBC clutch holding up?

I just installed mine a couple rides ago. So far so good.

well i did it last summer and i just took it apart and every thing seems to be fine i didnt notic any slippage the last time i rode, the guy doing my motor is going to check it to see if it will be good.

I have a 416 with a stage II and the power is still plentifull on trails. The only 2 things I dont like about it is that I still have to "clean it out" when trail riding b/c it loads up. I just open it up and let it breathe a bit and its all good. The power band is deffinately all in the top end. I think it rides like a 2 stroke powerband wise. The other thing I dont like about the hot cam is the noise. It rattles soooo much and I hat it. It makes me think something is wrong and EVERYONE notices it. Ive heard 2 others with Hotcams in them and they both sounded the same. Im fixing to tear mine down and re-ring it and Im looking into a web cam. I hear theyre a lot quieter.

Buddy was worried about his raptor because the valves made so much noise.

He called around and everyone who had them said they were noisy..oh well I suppose.

I never noticed any noise, and also if you have to "open it up" you may be lean on the pilot and rich on the main. This happened to me.

my motor is stock and im wanted to get me a cam, i mostly ride trails, so you say the stage 1 has most low end and stage 2 has top end, cause i need as much low end as i can get.

How much of a jetting change will i have to make.

I am probably going to try a 155 main jet and a 40 pilot when I get the cam.

Really depends on my exhaust situation tho. I think I may go ahead and get the cam first since its cheaper.

i would get them at the same time cause i think ur suposed to have a higher flowing exhaust with aftermarket cams. that HMF will give u plenty of low end tho trust me

Given the choice between cam or exaust, I'd go exaust first. If you don't have a K&N I would do that to. and if you don't tackle serious mud and water I would at least drill some good size holes in your air box lid. If you do that all at once you won't end up having to jet your carb a bunch of times.

PS: I run a stage 1 and am pretty happy for trail riding. Way more power all the way through. Used to take forever to wind out 5th gear. Now i'm looking for another gear constantly.
