I just installed the Mod Quad K&N air kit on my LTR and was wondering if it would be worth any hp to remove the air box completely, leaving the filter exposed? I currently have the air filter, cb, and sparky removed. Also, if i removed the air box all together, do you think i would run into a lean problem. Future plans will be a PIM and a Full Yoshi exhaust.

your better off just keeping it on, if you ride in any wet or muddy conditions then there will be problems.

I'd keep it there. IMHO the extra heat coming off of the exhaust would rob you of more HP than you'd gain. I don't have proof of this.. but I'd like to keep the box there for an extra heat shield.

You could, however, remove the lid, and punch some holes in the left side of the box to allow more ventilation while still providing some splash and heat protection.

When you say left side, do you mean if i was looking at the rear of the bike or box, that left side, or if i was looking at it from the front. Also, what size holes. I will throw the holesaw on it.

I'm sure he meant left when your sitting on it. I punched two 2" holes on both sides of my airbox, can't really tell ya if it added any power or not. Worst case, I can put some duct tape over them when I ride in the wet stuff.

Aye, I was thinking left while facing forward, since I figured the exhaust would be somewhere on the right side of the box.
