The service manual specifies, a oil of SF/SG or SH/SJ in API w/MA in JASO. I have been using Castrol R4 Superbike fully synthetic engine oil. It meets the spec, but is fully synthetic. Should I be running this oil?

Look on the bottle for the circular donut. If it says "Energy Conserving" don't use it because it has Moly in it which could cause your clutch to slip. If it doesn't say "Energy Conserving" on the bottom portion of the circle it's ok to use. I used synthetic in my 2001 Goldwing and use it in my 2003 Z400.

There is no suck mark on the actual bottle. I saw an old thread a while back talking about clutch problems and how it may relate to the type of oil you run. It does have a MA # on it. Is that Moly? On the previous thread, members spoke of not using fully synthetic oil. I will consult with my dealer, but AL I appreciate your imput. You seem to be very knowledgeable about these things. I was hoping to get a response from you.

Thanks..

Not sure about the MA # but here's a page with some good info on the donut I am referring to:

Valvoline 10w40 Durablend is the best oil you can buy, and better yet - it's only $3.69 a qt.

I hate to say this... But I used Honda HP-4 oil for my first oil change in the LTR... ;) Semi-synthetic, safe to use during break-in. Only $7.89 a quart... :D
