thanks ghott!

here is the A/Fr

again,....

RED= FCI intake

BLUE= stock with DRG filter

look how flat of a response the A/Fr is with the stock box with DRG filter setup... shows my ignition curves are ballz on too!!

Looks good:)

Do you have a graph with the HP and TQ together?

FCI 54.17hp / 32.16tq
Stock 52.94hp / 32.34tq

wppracing

The FCI has one wavey A/F line.

What were the mods done in this build?

yes brian if you want to look at the pk numbers, I should have compared the best hp and tq from each setup. the stock box with DRG filter hp run pulled consistently mid 53's...

With the smoother curve the stock box set up has, I would stay with that one.

the only difference between the wavy A/F response of the "FCI setup" to the "stock box with DRG filter setup" was just the change in intake boot setup. No jetting change was required. The FCI did come with their FCI intake filter as pictured earlier in this thread... Also, we swapped the FCI intake filter that is supplied with the kit, with another 'custom' inverted cone type filter of the same filter manufacture to see if there was a difference in power or response. The inverted cone filter exchange made no significance change in power or A/Fr..

pictures of the inverted cone filter on the FCI will also be posted..

LOL!

I'm not trying to brag about 'going big-time'. There are already a few credentials that are doing real well on the race circuit.

Here are a few of the racers build(s) that I am very proud of:

czrider263
kilabanshee
mike nash
jasson450R

Pro
Michael Ouel (Canada)
Daryl Rath (just carb)

all of which have wins and holeshots week after week....

I'm just happy that they are happy.

Well it looks like my quess was on the money. I based it off the power I made at Breezewoods. I knew Alex "czrider263" was running the web 208/921 cam and that was good for atleast another 2-3hp on top of what I have. Other then that me and Alex have basically the same exact motor. I believe I made 52hp and 32lbs of torque.

Great Numbers chad can't wait till sat to pick it up and ride the beast. I WON"T BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT.

Well i can't wait to retest after a small purchase of a DASA pipe!! lol

I have a question? What is the loss between the motor and the rear wheels? I know a car is like a 22% loss through the driveline I was wondering what power this machine is making at the motor.

typically about 15-20% loss through an ATV drive-train.

dirt bikes are signifcantly less because of the less rotational mass to turn... think about the difference the quad has with the axle, hubs, tires and rims, brake rotors, ect all taking the power away...

ever feel how light the RPM billet drag axle is in comparison to the stock/aftermarket MX axle?

Nice build chad. You will be getting some stuff from me sometime. But suspension comes first.

thanks everyone again for your great comments.

Unless there are no more questions to answer about this build, I'll be sitting back and listening for czrider263 'response to his ride report. czrider263 just picked his new monster up tonight. I gave him instruction, his old parts, his new spare parts and a CD that blueprinted his entire build to every detail.. Many pictures and info that i couldn't even have time to upload too!!.

Ride report:

Well after intalling a 14tooth sproket this thing is uncontrolable. Out of every corner this thing wheelies like nothing else. No matter what RPM and you pin it, it wants to pull your arms off. As soon as i get the suspension tuned in this thing will be a real racer. GREAT JOB CHAD your the #1 motor builder in my eyes. Not only do your motors put it down on the dyno you show all the work you put into it and show you exactly what went into your build. AWSOME CHAD!!!

i've been thinking.... oh no!

I found new technology from my day job as an electrical RF engineer that uses microwave frequency technology to cut-off unwanted frequency bands...

It gave me another tangent addition for my build...

sure. check those hot cam shims on the intake side when you check the valve lash. I'm worried for you that the HC shims won't take that much beating abuse from the DLC Ti valve tips pounding the shims thickness into pancakes... PM me when you get those measurements...

chad502ex

Hey ppl. Nobody suggested anything about the power above 9400, so i thought i'd point it out further from the attached dyno plot...

look over the torque graph below where the run is stopped purposely at 9400 rpm (due to the build being a customers),.... now, extend the torque line over from 9400 to 10000 rpm,..... you get ~29lb/ft. of torque at 10k.

mathmatically, the dyno formulates the following:

HP = tq x rpm/5250

HP = 55.24

Here's your 55hp stock bore...... thanks for asking. :D

maybe i should have rolled the dice and rev'd higher, huh? naaaa- I knew what the engine had!

chad502ex
09-20-2006, 10:57 AM
futhermore, I feel I should extend a shout-out to the parts vendors for this buildup:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Its true with my motor ill either be out front or broken down in the pits..... lets hope the second one doesn't happen!!!

BTW want to get a HCS3 for the build and test that against my 208......Chad you did say that cam is a little safer right???

chad502ex
09-26-2006, 06:25 AM
sure the HC3 will give you more piston-to-valve clearances due to the HC3 having less overlap than the 208. +

Actually, the HC3 has more valve lift than the 208, but because the lobe centers are pushed away from TDC, and also because the ramp is not as drastic as the 208, the cam is not a potentially destructive as the 208. IMO, the 208 should deliver more power because of the quick acceleration of the valve openings helps to accentuates the signaling on the carb fuel circuit(s).

Are you wanting your build to end up being a dyno mule or a race rocket? just install that DASA pipe and cam and go win some races....

Chad the RE is in my garage now so the shootout if you come and get my quad from Michigan???

And czrider got the pipe today couldnt wait to get home from workto see it, you did a hell of a job cleaning that thing up!!! Thanks again!

Whats a good starting point with the jetting '06 stock other then the RE pipe and Unii filter?? Up two sizes on the main and work from there???

thanks, but i was only kidding.

i have to admit jetting is not my strength. Its way too easy for me to dyno and see for sure instead of performing the 5 second WOT run checking the plug with the chance of being to lean and melting the build down.... Because I've done so many I'm getting closer to estimating.

beany- go with Kilas recommendation.

czrider263- cracking with DASA pipe, what do you mean cracking? are you talking about a studder or bobble?

Is your lid on or off?

beany
09-28-2006, 04:40 PM
Lid is still on.
Was thinking on getting the HRC kit and using the stuff I needed out of it, like the cam and jets and lid but not to sure yet??

Czrider been working to much so its not on yet, need to get the jets to maybe this weekend?? but not sure

Jonas
09-28-2006, 07:31 PM
If you have a full exhaust you should definately not get the HRC kit. Hot cam stage II, an '04 CRF needle, CRF250r leak jet, and a $3.50 main is all you need. All for less than $200. The rest of the kit you can easily duplicate. Taking your lid off with this combo will make a huge difference on throttle response and change the jetting spec ofcoarse.

chad502ex
09-28-2006, 08:34 PM
eed to go up one or two sizes though..

beany
09-28-2006, 09:21 PM
Was thinking the HRC kit for the warranty issues. I have the 4 year warranty so kinda wanted to stay with the honda internals, Could just sell off the stuff I don't need on here or ebay, some people think their getting a deal just because its on ebay!!! Sell the exhaust stuff and harness and just cut the wire. Figure I might be able to get around $100-150 on ebay for that stuff , but we'll see. Been working to much to do anything with my wheeler lately. So that sucks

Ok chad need your jetting skills.

After getting the tiny tach to work again i did some runs on the dasa. reving it out it only hit 7,024rpm. so what do you think i should do with jetting?

chad502ex
10-02-2006, 07:04 PM
sounds way too fat and its bobbling on itself. go back to your orginal jetting, then PM me the results...

czrider263
10-06-2006, 05:15 AM
Iv tried many jets from 183 to 195 with no luck getting rid of the bobble, so today my dad is taking it to a dyno with a A/F tester to finally get it jetted correctly. the hp numbers won't mean anything though because of it not being the same dyno.

true about the numbers, especially in this incliment weather.... but anyway, I hope that dyno operator knows what he is doing and don't destroy your engine....

Put the 183 in and take the lid off the airbox, If it gets better with no lid then u need to go to about 175, if it gets worse with no lid than u need a 200-210

My money is on you are too rich just my 02, 183 to 195 is fine tunning u need more drastic change

Chad what happened here that his jetting is off? Is it just an exhaust change?

chad502ex
10-06-2006, 12:34 PM
the scavening across the piston to the carb using the DASA should be much greater thus requiring signifantly less jetting that what is needed with the RE. 183 may not be small enough.. could be about 170 with the pull of the DASA exhaust.

Jetting guessing is why i dyno.

Yeah i tried to explane that to my dad about making more power but a smaller jet. will have results tomorrw. im pretty sure its going to be in the 170's but a A/F graph will tell the story. with your 10,000rpm limit i hope it goes well.

Czrider putting the pipe on as we speak, steppinf up on the main from a 120 to a 125, hopeing that it will work thought it was a 115 in there stock but i was wrong, see if i can get it running right tonight, with the pipe and the uni filter. First time wish me luck

czrider263

Ok got the bike back from the dyno....

that being said the jetting is very nice and can't wait to race tom...

don't compare the hp and tourqe numbers they are way off we were going for the A/F graph. like tha temp, and humidity were different, ran noby tires and didn't take off the rear brake and ran in 4th gear.

heres the before. notice how bad the A/F graph is
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/czrider263/06drg/dyno1.jpg

after see how much smoother it is.

Well, what did you end up with for jetting?

chad502ex
10-08-2006, 07:52 AM
this is just terrible. If you race with the second dyno curve jetting settings you'll get stomped. lost all your low end to 8000 rpm.

TAKE YOUR QUAD BACK AND GET YOUR DYNO MONEY BACK!

Those guys fudged up the jetting sooo bad... clearly they have no clue how to dial in a setup. WTF! They killed the power from 5250 to 8500! WTF!!!

Didn't you compare the first curve power from 5250 to 8000 to the second before you left the dyno?

This was an engine making over 54hp+, dialed in perfect and now it just pisses me off.

look at the first A/Fr on the first graph you posted... see the spike at 5500 rpm? That is normal and very typical.... It is caused from the instant wide open throttle response when the dyno operator stabs the throttle for the dyno pull... Imagine when the operator stabs the throttle, the FCR slide pulls up instantly, the engine 'gulps' in max air, a little fuel, which causes the lean response,..... then, the acellerator pump squirts in the fuel and washes the A/Fr response down to normal to about 7000 rpm...

Please, put your jetting back to what it was before they blow your build up....:grr:

Jonas
10-08-2006, 10:12 AM
Hey, if I was the dyno operator I would probably get a little nervous putting those graphs together on the same graph also:D 5-7 horsepower loss in the mid range??? Forget about the air/fuel curve and pay attention to that horsepower curve, it will tell you the real story.

Yellow backrounds are used by C riders in ATVA National Series. B is red, PRO is obviously blue, and PRO-AM is black, think A is white... or vise-versa A and PRO-AM..

Will post video tonight.

First a little backround..... I raced in c class and there were so many people that they had to run qualifyers. I got 3rd and moved to the main. but during the race there was a yellow flag and i gusse they thought i passed so they moved me back to 4th. So when it came to the main i pulled the holshot and lead every lap but the last one. there was a crash and a yellow falg so from the past experance i slowed down and didn't double. but of course 2 people pass me during it and no one saw but my camera but track officals wouldn't look at it but all of you will see. Also they called up the two people that passed me and asked them if they did and of course they said no to get there trophys. then my sis showed them the film and they said that flager doesn't count so you tell me what you guys think when you see it.

i cant see anything from that video, i was watching tho and u def. passed under caution first moto, u and 076 or whatever jumped passed the kid who slowed down on the first double for the yellow, second moto i couldnt really see it but it looked like the caution was just right before the corner, once u pass the downed person its fair game, i got 2 good jumps yesterday and riding the rest was easy, cant wait to move to A now, i love sleepy's track, the jumps are tight and the triple launches u high and everything about the track is easy

gasket material i use a die-grinder gasket scrub pad. made by 3m works awesome without removing metal from the surface...

carbon deposits, czrider263's is correct, i use glass beading..

oil and grime i use acetone or brake cleaner and elbow grease.

oil and grime i use acetone or brake cleaner and elbow grease.
For an everyday joe that doesn't have a sandblaster, can you use the gasket scrub pad to remove the carbon?

you can if your not worried about the scrub pad fibers getting eveywhere you don'y want it.... use brake cleaner or acetone and it rubs off on rag...

I was reading this post, and noticed that you said that with the 208 he should change his valves springs every 10 hours.

I would like to build up a motor using the 208, I race mx, but I also trail ride alot, and I could probably put 10 hours on a motor in a weekend, so thats no good :huh , are there any better springs that would be avalaible that would last alot longer?

are you using the webcam springs? if not would those be better or worst?

thanks

czrider263
11-12-2006, 10:01 AM
Yeah the 208 is suposed to be a killer on vavles! i put a good 4-5 hours on the set and will be tearing it down soon and will be able to test them for wear. As for power the 208 is just flat out nuts. you can run harder spring but that brings timing problems so i just keep a close watch for run time and cross my fingers.

How about an 06 DASA vs 06 RE pipe test on your build czrider263?

I'm sure the members here at ATVRIDERS whom have an 06/07 would love to see your machine cranked up past 9400 rpm, and tested against two top pipes... which one will be best?

RE is willing to ship a pipe down to test against the DASA, back-to-back pulls after A/Fr sampling...

you need to give me a call to arrange..

I've seen many Rossier vs. DASA graphs on the 04/05 machines, but I don't thin I've seen one on the 06/07's.

I call the 943 the 208 'mini-me'. the 943 is almost the same cam with normal base circle and smaller valve lift on the intake.

0.356 intake lift on 943
0.408 intake valve lift on 208

same lobe phasing

same duration

same overlap

same exhaust dur/lift.

essentially, a less agressive 208 that is considered 'drop-in' cause the 943 will not wear springs out on 0.356" lift...

Try not to get confused though about a smaller cam, it is possible to make more power on a smaller came if your port is tuned to flow more at 0.356" than 0.408". In other words, sometimes a cam can be too big and will cause power loss when the valve is full out the velocity falls significantly and the intake charge falls out ouf suspension....

OH WAIT A SECOND!!!

please dont get confused,...

the 'drop-in' cam (943) made more power that the 208 cam..

sure and it costs less too!!! :D

44oEX
12-04-2006, 08:49 AM
ok, could you please explain how this can be?

Is it just the way the porting has been done?

Or are you saying we should get a 493 instead of a 208?

it just doens't make any sence that the bigger ( supposetly better ) cam made less power, and the 493 would be more reliable anyway.:huh

xsr_racing28c
12-04-2006, 08:59 AM
Chad said in a previous post on the dyno testing thread that different cams react with different types of porting.

He said that the 208 was actually too much cam for this motor and was robbing some power.

I'll let him explain more......
