How to get carb needle out?

I cant get the carb needle out. I can see the flat tab that holds everything togather, but I dont want to break anyhitng so how do I get it out?

take a pair of needlenose pliers, and reach down into the slide with them, grab a hold of the gray needle holder, and pull slowly, firmly, but gently (WATCH OUT! There's a tiny little spring that will shoot across the room, and will never be found because it makes no noise)
