which cam would go better with a curtis sparks pipe for cross-country racing on an 05 450r? Where is the power at on each cam?

i have no idea where the power is at on each cam, and i have never tried the hrc cam, but i have the sparks x6 pipe on my 450 and the hotcam and i couldent ask for more power without putting a piston in it

If you like to ride in higher R's alot the hrc is better, if you want to lug around more the hc s2 would be a bit better. I love the mid to topend hit my setup has. My friend that had the hcs2 also had his gearing changed so that might be part of the bottem end hit with the hcs2.

I tried the HCS2 and thought it was pretty good on power. I tried the HRC on my 06 450 and liked it better though.... but, it is a much different bike... I just liked the way HRC felt alot better. I am switching cams as soon as my bike is back running to see how I like the HRC. :chinese:

bought my 450 in 2004 with the hrc kit and haven't had anything wrong yet :) (knock on wood)

Love my HRC cam, best upgrade I ever bought. Though sometimes I would like some more bottom end w/o the lug.

Like said above, the HC2 has more bottom end, the HRC has more top, depends on ur style.

Add a pipe with that kit and hang on. I love my sparks standard core, besides the noise :(

I hear great things about he rossier pipe as well.

Either together with hrc kit will really wakeup your R's I know mine got alot more bottom end when I piped it. I had my pipe waiting for my r to come in to my dealer. I had the hrc installed already when I picked it up. After the first oilchange I poped on the pipe and filter and what a difference. I no longer thought abou the gearing being a bit tall.

Are these cams all the same no matter if it's an 04'/05' or 06'? I notice Hotcams' listings are for 2004-2006. Did the HRC cam change when the engine changed?

The 04's and 05's are both more of a mid to topend power curve.
The 06's are more of a bottom to mid hit.
but the motor are very different so im guessing that is why. The 06's have a shorter stroke making them rev quicker, so I guess that is why they changed the hrc to come on sooner than it did for the previous years.

If you compare the 2 they actually have pretty much identical lift and duration. It is just a matter of opinion which one is better quality. I prefer honda because there quality is great. I don't know much about the hot cams though. I love my HRC and wouldn't trade it for anyyhing on my low compression bike.

So what are the lift/duration specs for the HRC cams? What about the stock cams? Here's the two Hotcams:

cam, intake lift, intake duration, exhaust lift, exhaust duration

HC stg 1: .378, 237, .343, 268
HC stg 2: .398, 248, .343, 268

So, it looks like only the intake side is different between a stage 1 and 2 HC.

I wonder where the various year CRF cams would fit into the scheme of things.

the 04-05 are actually considered more "bottom end" powered bikes compared to the 06's. the 04-05 are strokers compared to the 06. the old hrc cam is the most aggressive of the bunch. the new hrc is less aggressive and the crf is the least aggressive of the 3. the old hrc doesn't really help out athe 06 bike because the 06 has more of a high velocity port job. it can use a cam that has more bottom end power and pull the same top end power as a more aggressive cam. for example, the stage 2 hotcam will pull great on bottom and midrange but will pull the same top end as the aggressive hrc cam in the 06 bikes.

yes, all the cams can be installed in the 04-06 bikes.

The stock cam lift is Intake .337 Exhaust .290
The Hrc cam is lift is Intake .390 Exhaust .350

I do not know how to calculate the duration of them.
