The complicated valvetrains are the only kicker on the 4 strokes. With good mantainence (lots of oil changes and maybe a lot of valve checks depending on how you ride) you may never have a problem. But if you DO have a problem (and some do) than it's gonna cost more in the end than the one or two top-ends a year you might put in a 125.

I'd get the four stroke if you can affoard one. Nothing wrong with rippin' on a 125 2 banger though.

Tommy the valve stuff isn't bull****. There is a problem. alot of people can go a year with the valves not even moving. Once they move they don't stop though. once that thin coating of ti wears off the valves are junk. The problem wit the crf is the seats are to hard and when the valves just bounce of them it wears off that ti coating. None the less the crf is an awesome bike.

i've yet to see a valve problem on ANY 4 stroke bike past the year of 2004 that the owner takes care of... i'm not talkin 1 or 2 or 3 bikes... i'm talkin 20 to 30 range... if you maintain ur bike... change ur oil... clean your filter... and do general maintence u will never have a problem...
