my 400ex is not getting enough power. it barely will rare up on a wheelie in second gear. its got plenty of power when it gets to the powerband though. its had some mods done to it, t4 pipe, k&n air filter, rejetted, bigger oil tank. what should be the problem. i mean this should be enough mods for it to raise up in second gear. ive seen stock 400exs rare up in 3rd. plz help!

What year is it? I know the gearing changed in 05 i think...more bottom end. what jetting changes did you make? Have you doen plug checks?

BTW: your quad does not have a powerband.

Don't take this the wrong way, but a lot of it is rider experience as well. I know my 04 400ex will raise up no problem in second, you just have to position your weight right (as in, dont sat on the gas tank) and know when to blip the throttle.:D

drop a tooth on the front, tends to help a bit

Its possible something is wrong, but I would say its the rider. I can bring mine up in 4th.

I was like that when I first got mine... I was like man this thing I can't get up in 2nd...and now that I have grown to it and stuff I dont even have to pull when in second..just lean your weight back and give it hell...she will stand up..then shift to 3rd and ride her out man...

That is strange... with similar mods, but a FMF Powercore 4 slip-on I was pulling wheelies in fifth with a tug. Second damn near made it do flips. :p

I can barely get mine up in 2nd. But my buddies who are much more experienced can easily.

I don't know how you guys do it in 4th tho. Thats crazy. I usually pop my clutch to do 2nd gear wheelies.

That is true, but a 4 strokes powerband doesn't "hit" like what was being described. You really cannot "feel" the powerband on a 4 stroke, or at least I can't.

I have to work at keeping my '05 down in first and second gear. Must be my Fat Arse on the back forcing it up. :D

yes it does. any engine has a powerband.. the term powerband simply refers to the point where the engine starts to make good power all the way until the power levels off. his powerband might be focused on the mid and top end. lack of bottom and is what keeps u from doing wheelies. advanced timing helps. i just installed an advence timing key in my quad and i noticed quite a diff. they are only about $20

it depends on how ur engine is tuned. u can make it hit like a 2-stroke by tuning it all for mid and top end power. the kind of powerband ur describing is a gentle powerband that pulls solidly from idle to redline. it is harder to feel when the power comes on but it is much easier to ride esp. for long periods of time.

Roger, thats what I was trying to say as far as "hitting" the powerband.
