i have an 01 416ex and yeah it fast. butt the 450's beat on me. :[ i dont really wanna sell the bike and buy a 450 i would really like to just upgrade it. so is putting a crf450 motor in gunna be worth it?

It depends, for the engine, the radiator, electronics, etc your looking at like 3 grand, so it's up to you. I have heard that the installation is pretty easy though.

hell-no. not if money is a factor. it would be effin pointless to spend all that money just to for the sake of having a hybrid.

if you buy a new quad then you have to put all the money back into the chassis

If you have already have your chassis fully built, then yes the 450 swap is worth it..but if you're chassis is pretty close to stock, then **** no it isn't worth it. That was my deciding factor in building my 426 hybrid anyways.

yeah if you put a crf 450 motor in it u need chassis upgrades. if u have the chassis upgrades it is deff worth it, not only is it fast its unique.

Well i have a 416ex and i rode my buddys hybrid crf 450, he has a aftermarket frame though(not a 400ex). He has 12.5 compression piston and sum other goodies. It flat out rips. Blow my 416 out of the water. As for is it worth the money, i dont know. Seems every one is leaning towards production bikes now.

well if you figure you gotta buy the engine for whatever they cost, fabricate stuff... line everything up, convert wiring harness and all that horse sh.... for 4500 you can buy a 450R ready to go that you can probably spend less on than what the whole hybrid project will cost you. it really all depens on what you want. if your determined to have a hybrid, than go for it. if your not looking to dump loads of cash that you'll probably never see again in the event you decide to sell it, buy the 450r, and go from there.

If you already have after market suspension on your 400 build a hybrid. It will probably cost around 3-4k and you will have quad that is faster than the 450's with awesome suspension or you can sell your quad and then spend 3500 and end up with a brand new bonestock 450 of your choice.

in my opinion, if i was going to spend another 4k... I would just buy another machine, and have 2. :macho

The only problem that you really can't get around is cost, but in my situation I got everything fairly reasonable, including my base quad that I started with. :eek2:

is it worth it? well in some cases no and in some yes.
in my case it would be yes, this winter i'm doign a CRF hybrid conversion. right now there is around $10,000CDN into my 400EX and the 440 isn't cutting it. for me to go out and buy a 450R would be around the $9000CDN mark. if i tryed selling the EX i'd maybe get $4500 CDN for it. there are ways to not spend $10,000 on conversion alone. i'm using stock EX frame and making my own mounts, 450R rad, CRF450 engine, carb & wiring. if i sell my 440 engine to help pay for the conversion it really isn't to bad for a 16 year old.
if oyu have the money and time to build it i'd say go for it. allways nicer to own somthing you've built not bought;)

good luck

That is what I want to do......

My 400EX is setup to where I want it, I can not justify buying a whole new quad just for HP!
