Is it worth removing airbox lid? Is there a noticable difference without it? I have a K+n filter and I'm going to get an outerwear I was just wondering if it would help or not. i was thinking of removing it when I race and putting it back on when I just trail ride.

rejet-yes. more air=more fuel needed. i took mine off for a bit and noticed you can hear it sucking in more air.

Yea but then you'd get alll kinds of crap in there when you trail ride woudn't you? My buddy with a warrior did that just to help a little in keeping up with my 400(i think)...it didn't work...and his cuts out every time we hit water and has the dirtiest oil between the two when we change it.

What about 6 or so of those filtered airbox vents, I thought about those, might be a good compromise?

Thanks

i bought an outerwear box cover. To me it looks like its not going to really keep too much stuff out, but i haven't installed it yet so i can't say too much. I would like to do what 3punksdad in the Reviews did, but i want to find out how much another lid is going for before i just cut mine all up.

You will get more power with more Air.

i would only remove the lid if you have other motor work done also. with a stock motor you will not notice that much of a difference.

I have a stock motor and just added an aluminum box cover with no lid. I took it out Friday night and man I was surprised how much power was added just by having no lid and adding a K&N... Can''t wait to do a few more power mods.

with the lid off you pull in more unrestircted air, which more air+more fuel(rejet)=more power. this is what a supercharger and a turbo for the most part. they actually push air in the motor, which in turn gives you more power. they also cool the air making it more condenced, and once again more power. a lot of high output engines run no box at all, creating no resistance except the filter.

i think it depends where youre riding, ive tried holes in stock lid, no lid, outerwear airbox cover, and 2 custom aluminum ones I made, one with holes, one without.
I use the aluminum one with no holes because it keeps my airbox the cleanest. more air does equal more power, but it wasnt worth it to me, i just ride in too much water and mud to have to worry about it bogging out all the time due to water getting in

Do it. I would suggest an outerware airbox lid cover, outerware filter cover and rejetting. I tried the uni filter inserts but It really wants mora air. Don't use the velcro just cut the lid and install it over the outerware. You will really feel it!!!

Unless you are riding in some pretty serious water there is not much that gets in there & it makes some nice gains w/a rejet & slip on pipe. You just have to clean more frequently & keep the lid around for when you're washing the quad.

take the box off completely. build, or if someone makes them buy, a bracket thats supports the filter and carb. you just cant ride in any water. i think the increased airflow around the filter would keep the majority of the dust off.

Cut a hole in the lid in it the shape of a football, get some vail (wedding) material at Wal-Mart for $2 and put the material under the lid, it keeps all the major dirt out...also get a K&N with Outerwear, and re-jet and you should be set.
