What gear lube and coolant do you run in your 250R. I just got mine here today and it had all the fluids drained. I'm not buying honda gear lube so what weight generic should I buy? Can you buy the 50/50 coolant or do you need the zero water staight antfreeze?

thanks

i run maxima 10w-40 for the oil, and engine ice for the coolant.

I been running honda HP coolant, but I think I'll be switching to the engine ice since I was boiling my coolant today. For gear oil, amsoil.

Honda gear oil 85W made specifically for CR and TRX250R transmissions. I have torn into my lower end after replacing crank and it still looked brand new.

Engine Ice for the coolant, just remember it works great for hot temperatures but does not have an antifreeze agent so in winter if do not store your quad in a climate controlled garage then switch to regular antifreeze.

i have good success with engine ice as well...

as far as the oil... i usually either run valvoline 50 weight racing oil or the maxima 80 weight tranny oil... they both work fine... if you use the thicker stuff and it is hard to shift, try the 50 wt and i bet it will facilitate your shifting... my buddy has run 50 wt in his for years... oh and ps i just rebuilt my bottom end on saturday and it still looks brand new...

I wont run the honda oil because I have to drive 2 hours to get it and I'd rather just get some cheap stuff locally. Thanks for the info everyone. There must be alot of room for error because we have people running everything from 40 to 85 wt.

Just use some 10W30 and 50/50 the coolant. It won't hurt anything. I am positive. For all the haters of the 10W30 versus the Honda special stuff. Try a change and you will see that it works.

I use Bel-Ray GearSaver and right now just water for the coolant... I keep forgetting to buy some.

SEEMS I'VE SCREWED UP. Everyone tells me I should have used the 10w40. WTF!! Now I have to drain all this crap out. I'm going to the Honda dealer tonight to get jets, I'll just go with the Honda tranny fluid I guess.
