go to iTunes and right click the song you don't want and click clear, then plug your iPod in and it deletes it.

I deleted every song in my library, and the iPod still has music on it.

i plugged it in 10 minutes ago and it says do not disconnect, good sign?

in iTunes go to edit, preferences, then go to advanced and change to automatically update iPod. Make sure your iPod is hooked up to your computer. Mine wasn't so I was going by memory. And for the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen both my iPods always say that until they are fully charged.
