there seems like many ways to do this whats the easiest for a newbie, i have a 400ex
jig saw, heat a knife, etc

Ew. Don't try a hot knife.

Get an air dremel with a cutoff tool, or you can use the jig if you're confident. The jig is big and bulky and the dremel is small and precise, so I'd go with that.

When you're done sand the edges down by hand. At first with coarse sandpaper, then work your way up to finer grades until it looks somewhat smooth. When it looks pretty good hit it with a heat gun, or if you don't have one a lighter. Be careful if you use a lighter, because it will burn the plastic and possibly leave marks. All of this will make the edges look like they came that way.
