They are both quailty pistons. Whichever of those two manufactures you choose, if your engine fails it's not likely to be because the piston had a defect.

Consider which piston is easier for you to get. That could be reason enough to go with one over the other.

That said, I slightly prefer JE. I've had good experiences with JE. And call me crazy, but it never sat well with me that Wiseco calls their 89mm piston a "440" when the actual displacement is 435cc. Does that indicate the quality of their manufacturing or materials? No, but it is a minor misrepresention.

ill be going witha je soon, they make a 416 in either 10.8:1 or 12:1....so thats my next decision, im trying right now to decide which compression i want

not 12:1. then you gotta run race gas or atleast you are supposed to.

I have a wiseco in my 300ex and havent had any problems right (knock on wood). Main reason I went with wiseco was that they are cheaper and I was pressed for cash.

Where are you looking to get it from? I saw this one but it seemed a little pricey to me. Am I wrong?

Uh... So? Why don't you take a look at the actual displacement of most quads? All of them are off by a bit. 250R is 247cc, 400EX is like 380-something.

Anyways... I picked Wiseco because A. It was easier for me to get from my shop, and cheaper and B. I like their stickers better. It really doesn't matter... Both of them are good.

400 is 397. Manufacturers do this because a 397ex doesn't sound as flashy as a 400ex. Thats the only reason. Piston manufacturers should however put the exact size.

In this case go with the JE, the wiseco 400ex piston is made for the XR and the compression ratio is NOT correct on any of their 400ex pistons.

Uh...because when your buying an AFTERMARKET piston the displacement they indicate should be accurate. I'm not talking about a model name given by a manufacture.

I would choose JE because i read in a forum that wiesco warp faster because they take longer to expand at startup...

Race gas is a 'supposed to' on that 12:1 comp. and remember they say anything 12:1 or above on a 400ex you should install heavy duty head studs.--59.95 from www.gtthunder.com

and for safety a heavy duty rod too...

dont forget the price to install those studs, as its not a simple tap and thread them in.
