got a full motor of ebay, with a lrd 330 non pv , now here's my problem,i.m finding it impossible to kick start ... bump ok ..

i haven;t got a compression tester so don;t know the compression but i guarantee there ;s loads there .....

fitted a new
stator & flywheel
new cdi bow
new coil
gapped the plug to 19"
so there 's a spark there ..

swapped the reed cage over . to eliminate that .
running a 38mm air styk..200 main .and 58 pilot .
had the needle clip on every position ...

any thought;s plz ..would be appreciated ..

"Bump OK," as in you can bump start it? How does it run when you do that? Does the kicker make any weird noises?

when it s bumped ,it revs ok, ticks over ok , and have did a leak down test as well ,its ok there ... 1 thing its had a fresh piston in ,don;t know if it was a rebore or just honed ..so need's running in .. maybe just tight ,??? never had this prob with my other 250r motors .... the kickers fine as well

are you saying your having a job to kick it over ,or , you are kicking it over fast enough to start it but its not starting ?
where you at in u.k tom ?

yes lee i;m in the uk. i believe u bought off me on ebaay once ... anyway i;m kicking it over fast enought to start it ,, but just won't start .. sparks -petrol's going through . even changed the petrol and av gas ....just got me stumped !! when it has attempted to start by kicking , it kick s back ,, pointing to ignition problem ... but bumps all right ...have u got u 250 on the road yet??

If it runs good when you bump start it then there's something wrong with the kicker.

nothing wrong with the kicker ,,its turning it over fine

mostly done , just off on honeymoon tommorrow so as you can imagine the last few weeks have been a bit tough .
was it the cylinder i got from u?
does sound like an ignition problem from the firing back but strange runs ok on a bump ? have you had a look see that the counterbalncer holder is all ok , maybe its adjustable or on its way out enough to move the pick up ??

yes , i think it was a spare top end u got of me ... my motors got a brand new counter balance holder in , so its not that .

dude, my bike is doing the exact same thing,,,, it just started doing it, when i changed ignition systems, im thinking maybe a timing problem? i dont know

the problem is me !!!,, ,, honest, i.ve had to easy kicking over 250r's .. the 330 just won;t start with a half attempt kick ...

Same thing happened to me when I got my 250r.

Now, listen carefully.

Turn the killswitch off so it will not run. Kick it like 7 times, then turn the killswitch on and kick it like 10 times and it should start between 1 and 10 or a little more maybe. That primes it. I went from kicking my leg off and havin it kick back and nail my shin, kickin for 10 minutes to starting it in 10 seconds.

half way down the thread i was thinking, you dont know how to kick it over.. not to many people that own R's kick them over the right way... believe it or not...

even if my R is cold i can start it on first kick, it even amazes me.

trick is to set the kicker up so the piston gets up close to TOP DEAD CENTER and then kick it over, the inertia allows the crank to spin back up and compress and fire on 2nd revolution.....

even my buds who own them(except for doc bones and mad rippa) have difficulty starting them.

even starting an R is an ART lol

well there u go, it works ,cheers for the tip ,not sure what priming a 2 stroke works, , but kicked it over 9-10 with the kill out ,and no throttle or choke ,then kicked over the 5 attempt ....u learn something every day !!!!!!!!!:)

kicking it over with the kill switch out is just going to tire you out, try priming it like i said

ive had 4 Rs and this is the only one that kicks back like this,,, isnt a possibiltiy it could have somethign to do with timing?

every thing beerock has said is spot on,, get it top dead centre and starrts 1st or 2nd kick every time !!!!!!,,,,

Instead of kicking it over 7-10 times with the killswitch on, I just kick it over about 3 times a little slower. Then kind of pump the kicker with my foot until I can feel good compression at the top of the kickstroke and then I give her hell. It always starts within 3 kicks for me, but hey that's just how I do it.
