i m thinking of doing a air box mod by drilling holes in the lid for my 400ex.do u just leave the holes open or put sum thing there to stop sum dust geting in.

You can do either. I ran a lid that had maybe 15 of these in it:

Cleaning them was an extra maintenance step that I got sick of doing so now I just run without a lid or run the same lid but without all the little filter plugs in it. It just has a bunch of holes now.

The Outerwears (http://www.atvriders.com/reviews/outerwearsairbox.html) airbox covers seem popular. There are lots of directions to go with the airbox...

do u ride in a lot of water.if not remove the lid and rejet.u get the most out of this mod.i drilled 5 hole on my ex,and it really didn't make a difference.then i removed it
