Well I was racing today and my motor made that big pop. Actually it was more of a WHACK!! The loudest possible whack you will probably hear from one of these motors. Here are the results

I'd just JB Weld that. It'll be fine.

But seriously, that sucks. What mods did you have?

I'm not sure what happened to it. I just did it today and I haven't pulled it apart yet. My guess is a snapped rod or the piston seized and the rod pulled the wrist pin out of the bottom of the piston. That thing locked up so hard that it pulled the chain off of the front of the countershaft sprocket but it was still on the top and bottom of the sprocket.

there was a guy on a different site that switched out his baldwin for a different piston and found that his rod had been starved of oil. so i bet the rod broke.

So whats the count on motors now B-Mart?

Seriously, you should just put out the coin and have Kenny or SOMEBODY do it. No offense, but I don't care how hard you are on ****, motors shouldn't go THAT often.

I'm thinking I may just pull this motor apart and take whatever not be destroyed out and can be used ( my guess is that the head is about all that survived) and then toss that motor and pick up a whole new crate motor for it.

Rod bearings went out and cuased the rod to sieze therefore cuasing the rod to break.....

Its happend to many times...

And I was running a HH piston 12.25

Another case of this same exact thing was a 12.x or 13.x JE pistong...

Has nothing to do with the Baldwin piston...

Thats what I replaced mine with.. lol

after looking at those pictures i should consider myself lucky..all i needed was a crank, rod, piston, timing chain, all new bearings and to weld one case....

ThumPIN_450R

I've locked up two rod bearings before and never had this happen. I was also about 5 RPM from bouncing off the Voretex limiter this time also. I consider myself luck becuase if it would have done that a few seconds sooner it would have locked on the face of a jump rather than a few feet after landing.

I just lost my rod bearing as well about two weeks ago. I have the extended warrenty plan so it should be covered.

Damn, that sucks. The same thing happened to me on my 'Shee but it didn't do any damage to the cases. The inside of the engine didn't look pretty though...

Btw, is this happening on all years of the 450R engine or just the '05 when they switched over to the cheap bearing?

That happend to me but it was with my sled (1996 polaris xcr 600) the connecting rod broke free from the crank and blew threw the block. i couldnt fix mine i needed a new block :(

I could do it with 3 or 4 packages of JB Weld.
