View Full Version : bolts on cam shaft How in the heck.....!

Guys how in the heck do u get the bolt off the decompresser cam and the 2 bolts off the cam sprocket manual says they are lock tighted in but I can not bust these loose. Was gonna try heat just was not sure if I should do that or not. o6 450er any one changed the cam before if so how did you get tjose out please any info would be swell

you need an special tool that holds the sprocket from moving and you loosen the bolts

heh i just stuck a screwdriver threw the hole in the sprocket so it layed against the head so when i turned the screw on the sprocket it wouldnt move

An pnuematic impact ratchet should knock em' loose--if you have access to one. You could also try making a wooden jig to hold the cam in a vice.

Turn the cam until you can use the frame as a stop for your socket entension.

Thanks guys, I can get it to not move by holding the crankshaft thats not a big deal I was just wondering if it was as hard for anyone else to get them out, that lock tight is holding on like a sob, i'll get it thanks guys

i loosen and tighten the cam sprocket bolts by holding an allen wrench where you turn the crank over at (in the hole on the right side of the case). for the decompressor i used a vice if i remember correctly.

:mad: Those cam sprocket bolts are a mother to get out. I nearly destroyed the head of one and then had to drill it out to save the sprocket for the HRC. Never did get the rest of the bolt out of the stock cam.

Apply a little heat to the bolts. It will loosen the factory loc tite.

hey thanks again guys cam was in and running in a few hours. Man does that make a diffrence. I will recomend the sparks x4 big cam to anyone
