Their is an HUGE difference between a slip on and a full system

The tune of the engine is a significant factor. On an internally stock engine I would go with a slip on. I believe the money saved is much better spent elsewhere.

i noticed better torque with a slip on and minimal engine mods

Agreed. A bike with a slip on and cam will toast a bike with only a full system. If you plan on dumping loads of cash into your motor then you should go with the full system.

I agree with GPracer2500. Same thing that I have said in the other 500 threads on this, or a very similar topic. :p

Prices of cams depend on what you are looking at. The best "Budget" cam, though not my personal favorite, is the Hotcam. I would go with a stage 1 hotcam... should run you around $115 or so depending on where you get it from. The performance with a cam and pipe is much greater than a full system alone.. even when compared to high dollar systes like Curtis Sparks... which is possibly the best (Or one of the best) power producing systems on the market for the EX.

I think the Sparks may be an exception on this. Plus I don't think Sparks offers a slip on for th400ex.

 (And no, Sparks does not have a slip-on).

How is Sparks an exception?... it is merely an example that even the best systems will not make the overall power on a stock engine when compared to a slip-on and cam.

I can honestly compare mine to my friends slip-on HMF. Mine deffinately has more get-up-n-go! Also I think Sparks kept the stock engine in mind when they designed their pipes. The X-4 is more geared towards stock than my X-6. check out the link or call them.

so if i get a slip on and a cam that would be good would it be cheaper than getting a full system

a slip-on about all you are getting is sound.with the stock header the motor is not breathing all that much more no matter what kinda pipe you got. you can cut your baffles out of your stock and co about the same for performance. they are right about the cam, really opens it up.but i would say full with a cam.

Actually, the stock 400EX header is pretty free flowing compared to some others. :chinese:
