i have a 01 400ex with a 440 kit wb exhaust CDI box stage two hot cam and a K&N. Would i be worth it to buy a Edlebrock 440 carb for it and will i gain much top end or how much will i gain?

I'm curious about an aftermarket carb as well. Although I'm looking into a 450R carb or 39mm FCR.

I read an article somewhere that said the Edelbrock carb added more HP than a exhaust system did on a STOCK 400ex. So I am sure the gains would be very nice on a modified 400ex.

IMO, I would not go with Edelbrock. They are awesome when they come to tuning... very easy, accurate, and you have more room for mistakes compared to others. I think that other carbs produce more power, though. From what I understand, FCRs are the best... but they are expensive. 450r carbs are nearly as good, and relatively simple to put on. For around $100 bucks, they are very decent carbs. I think that either of those are better choices than the Edelbrock.

On the XR400s this is the best and most reliable carb money can buy

I have to agree with QJ. I just changed over from Edelbrock to the 450r carb, and the difference is insane. I like the R carb a million times better... the throttle response and overall feel isn't even comparable. JMO, but you would save alot of money, and actually gain better with the R carb (Or FCR) over the Edelbrock.

The Mikuni is a good carb, no doubt. I think the reason it is so popluar for the XR400s (more popular than FCRs) is because the FCR doesn't fit the XR as well--clearence issues--NOT because it is a superior carb.

That said, a new Mikuni is less expensive but still a high-end carb....if I ran into a good deal on one I'd use it for sure. But I'd choose the FCR first, all else being equal.

I'd love to see back to back dyno runs with the FCR39 and the TM36. It would be interesting to see what, if any, difference there would be.
