Why don't people ever use the 450R engine in hybrids.

the bike engines are more powerful than the '05 450r. they are about the same as the '06. the used ones are harder to come by. u could just buy a new one.

I have always wanted to build a hybrid too. My dream motor would be a crf450 motor with a big bore athena 490 kit, with aftermarket cam, flywheel, clutch, and ignition. I want to put one in a 250r or 400ex chasis. I'll never end up doing it but if some one did that would be the sickest quad ever.

One f my best buds has a XR650 and I would absolutely looooove to have that motor in my EX chassis.

say how much would it cost to do all of this?

i think it would be about 2500 to 3000. engines arent cheap and u have to get a wiring harness, electrics, carb, and other misilanious (sp) stuff.

It just doesnt seem like all that practical of an idea because a bone stock yamaha 426 and a honda 450 motor have way more horsepower than a stock 250r motor. You can make a 250r motor crazy fast but it would probably cost way more money than just starting out with a bigger motor in the first place. Another reason is that it would be cheaper to just leave the 250r motor in its frame and build that quad then retro fit a 400ex for a 250r motor.

which one do you think has better handling stock? the TRX250R, or the TRX400EX?

if anyone builds a hybrid go with an aftermarket 250r geometry frame if at all possible. they are better handled on the mx track when it comes to an lt front end. im going with a 400ex chassis because i already have one and its most afordable for me like i said check the my hybrid forum in my profile out and any questions will be answered.
