So, we found a snake in our little girls room tonight. Ashley and I both hate snakes with a passion. I was sitting at the computer holding the baby and Ashley started SCREAMING...come to find out there was a snake in the babies closet. I killed the SOB...anyone know what kind of snake it is?...other than dead.

I can't see any noticable rattles, but baby 'Rattlers apparently don't have rattles...is that right? From what I have read, babies are born about 15" long in the spring...

Well...because I bashed the hell out of it's head, it's kind of hard to verify if there are fangs or not. However, there is a hard white skinny peice in the front of it's mouth that is likely a fang...but maybe I'm just paranoid...

Yeah snake can still bite even when their dead. I choped a snake(grass snake) in half one time and 20 minutes later it was still moving so I picked it up and it bite me.

Gopher snakes have the same markings and mimic Rattle snakes here in CA. Without being able to tell whether the head has a diamond shape or not it is hard to tell. Keep it and take it to you local Fish and Game or wildlife center for verification. They can also come out and do a sweep of the house for your own safety.

I hate snakes off all shapes and sizes. I dont care how small they are.

I saw this one on the trail at the last AGP race and it didnt take me long to push him away from me. Turns out he ended up right on the trail and Chris Borish Took care of him:p

once chris passed by i couldnt find it, he musta flung the thing 40 feet.

Possibly a milk snake???

Best thing to do would be to bring whatever is left of the snake to a local animal shelter/vet/science center/zoo or whatever you have nearby . They should be able to identify it for you .

Looks like a rattler. A old wise tale says they always travel in pairs but 2 snakes in one house, that would be real un-likely.
Check your dryer vent, I have seen where they like the warm air coming out of it and crawl up it, the hose comes off inside the house and they have free access to the home.

When my daughter was 2, we were in the front yard messing around and I looked over at her and she was pointing at something in the flower bed, I didn't think much of it at the time thinking she was interested in the flowers, the next thing I know, one of my blue heelers was going nuts right beside her so I go over there to see what the fuss was about and there was a six and half foot rattler less than 3 foot from her laying in the flower bed. The only thing that saved her was that the snake had just ate a squirrel and it was about a foot behind its head while swallowing it so the snake couldn't strike since it was full. Scared the living crap out of me knowing that if that snake hadn't have just ate the squirrel, it could have easily have bit her. I was on snake patrol every day for a long time after that. I just hope on that day that by dog would have hopefully stepped in to save my little girl since I wasnt paying attention.

Just last year about 5 o'clock in the morning I heard this blood curlling scream and went running down stairs and there was my wife up on the bathroom counter trying to go even higher when I look down and there was a 3 foot cooperhead laying there. She had went down stairs barefooted and stepped on it and then turned the light on.....and all hell broke loose. I'm a snake kinda of guy but a 5 in the morning and half a sleep I got a shovel and got him. I too was told that in the spring they travel in pairs. We were on pin and needles for a week and right when we started to stop think about it...wham here's it's mate looking for it.
An old timer told me if you kill one just leave it lay and come back in the dark and you find it's mate nearby. I'm going to do some research today using the picture and find out what it is. Remember some of them little ones are born alive and have like 12-15 baby brothers and sisters. Tehy make a stickie board that you can lay on the floor and if any thing slithers across it it will stick them to it. Also moth balls palced around there hiding places will make them come out within the hour. Seen that on Discouvery channel. Sleep good, dont let the bed bugs bite!:D

The best way to tell if it was Venomous is if it's pupils have a slit which means bad news. Non Venomous have round pupils and slits on the Venomous ones. Read this attachment and you will know all you want. Good luck. Ever thought about getting a kitty cat?

yah you should check the whole house. you got VERY lucky that thing didnt bite anyone, especially if its a baby...because baby snakes dont have the ability to control their venom, so when they bite someone, they release all of their venom in to the person instead of a controlled amount like an adult snake would do.

but ya, me and my buddies were shootin snakes and crap out at his land abouta month ago, and we killed this 4ft long snake, the friggin thing was huge! were not sure if its a king snake or a water moccosin, because we found it in water. but it kept movin for hours...i sat it down on the ground and came back in 30 mins and it had moved like 3 feet

Not too sure b/c of the quality of the pic but it looks like a black snake. theyre pretty much harmless (except for making you hurt yourself lol) But I wouldnt have taken any chances either being that it was in your kids room. Snakes dont actually still bite after they are dead but thier fangs do still carry venom for years after death and can still poison you but you have to basicaly stab yourself with one to be injected. Also, all snakes have fangs whether poisonous or non. Hope that was the only one. :ermm:

That's a black snake, very common here in Oklahoma and are known to get into your house fairly easily, here is another pic:

Reminds me of a good story... One time, my cousin, two buddies, and I were doin some Sunday trail riding by the lake. The area is very wooded. We had been riding all day and was on the way back to the truck, I was the lead guy and my cousin was behind me a little ways. We were about 100 yards from the truck when I had to slow down to go through a tight spot. When I made the turn I looked back to see my cousin off his quad throwing his arms in the air and yelling as loud as he could. LMAO A snake had dropped outta the tree and landed right in his lap/chest. ROFL just typing this makes me laugh. I wish I had a camcorder. Sorry for long post, but thought I would share that. :D :p :p
