what year motors of the atc 250r will bolt right in on the trx 250r?

I have seen some 1981-1982-and 1983 motors they look the same but i want to make sure it will fit before i buy it.

Also will the TRX250r cylinder fit on the ATC?

The chain on right side of the air coooled '81-'84 ATC 250R instead of the left side like on the '85-'86 ATC's and the TRX's so you will have to do some fab work to make the motor fit. '85-'86 ATC motors will fit with no problems whatsoever. One of the quads in my shop has an '86 ATC motor in it.

So the atc250r 85-86 will bolt right in on the trx250r i have a 86 frame and it needs front motor mounts do they weld in or bolt on.

the front mounts have tabs that are welded to the frame. there are two brakets that bolt to the motor then to the tabs on the frame. it has one bolt that goes through the motor and two to the tab on the frame here is a picture of the two brakets

85-89 250r motors are nearly identical, they all bolt in the same way, they can share cases, cranks, tranny's, and most types of top ends with each other. there are differences between all of them, but since all can share each others parts, the only way 20 years later to identifly them is if you know the history. I have long rods in short rod motors, in one 85 cases, I have a long rod and trx tranny, another is 86 atc cases, 88/89 tranny and long rod. I'm starting lose track of what motors I have are 85 crank, tranny cases, and so on for the other years I have.

no on the frame there are no motor mounts like the tabs u showed n the pic. wen u said on the left.

and death man would you want to sell any of you motors or do you have a bottom end laying around which in good shape.

also so does this mean i cant use any of the atc's 81-84?

you would have to have a welding shop or blacksmith, or a friend with a welder do some fabricating for you. hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions. also why would you want to use a 81-84 motor, they are air cooled, not liquid like the 85-89?

I thought they would be the same when fixed up but i cant find a trx250r cheaper.

Does anyone know anybody who got a 250r bottom end?

Brian112233

no, the 81-84 are not as good. stick with the 85-89, do you need complete bottom end, just cases, just gears, crank. watch ebay, you can find decent prices there, i have some parts let me know, i dont have complete bottom end but i have a complete forwheeler for sale as you know

So how can i find some motor mounts to get welded in. do they only have tabs or do they sale the motors mount in the picture with the blue frame.

I need front motor mounts for the R frame.

here is a picture of 250r frame that needs front motor mount.

do you know anyone who has 250r locally, if so take it to a welding shop and they can weld some mounts in for you. other than that you will have to custom make them off the pick, find someone to cut theres off for you, or just buy another frame. also what are looking to spend on a running motor, i have a buddy that owns a shop and i know he has a new motor, i can ask him what he wants and get back to you.

I would spend no more than 500-600 on a motor shipped.

And let me know if anyone knows of someone who is doing a hybrid with a 250r and if they want to sell their stock motor mounts.

you will have a hard time finding a good running motor for 500-600 shipped, i know there is one on here somewhere for 700, i will look and post if i can find. also i will ask my friend what he wants for his and keep an i out for mounts for you

NO, completely different.

Get yourself a motor and bolt it in using all the existing mounts. Get the front mounts that unbolt and then have a welding shop make what you need to take up the gap. Get a good pic of what they are suposed to look like to show them and you should be ok. They don't have to be exactly like oem as long as they are strong. 86 mounts are totally different from 87 to 89 so you have two styles to choose from. I could do it if you were not so far away but its not worth shipping the frame when you can find someone locally.

Listen to x.system, he told you basicly the way I have done that in the past. Make your front motor mounts that will be welded to the frame out of 3/16 to 1/4 inch chromoly flat stock and have it TIG welded to your frame. Make sure everything is real clean (areas to be welded) and bolts up nice before welding.

So i should get the motor then get those chrome mounts that are in the picture on the first page and have those welded in. Is that what you are saying.

matt250r21

The chrome motor mounts in that picture do not get welded to the frame, they bolt the motor to the mounts you will have to get fabed up. The fabracated mounts get welded to the frame. The chrome mounts are the link between the motor and frame. They bolt in so the motor can be removed from the frame for service.

so the only way i can get my motor to stay in the frame.

You will also need to find the rear motor mount bracket for an '86-'87 frame and the headstay mount before the front mount tabs can be welded to the frame.
