i have right now
-sparks x-6
-wiseco 416 piston 11:1
-K&N filter
- stock sleeve

plans, what should i consider different if anything
-new sparks big bore sleeve (too run cooler)
-new wiseco 416 piston 11:1
-sparks aggressive cam w/exchange
-sparks HD valve springs
-sparks CDI
-sparks HD rod
-sparks HD cam chain
-hinson basket and clutch kit
-sparks port and polish
-450r carb

if it aint obvious im going for reliability and planty of power

jsut kinda wondering and thinking on what to do with my motor over the winter becasue ill be running the TQRA series next year. so basically its the full sparks 416 national w/ a 450r carb and hinson clutch and port and polish

good setup. sparks is a real good engine builder. why not go to a 426 though? more power. power is good if u plan on racing.

The 416 will stay very reliable. I would check into the Sparks CDI though because I have heard them to be similar to the White ones. Not sure though.

My buddy has two 400's bored out to a 426. Has never had a lick of problem with either of em. All depends on craftsmanship of the work.

i talk to sparks on the phone today and he said to be honest wiht you your not gonna beable to hang with anyhting more than a stock 450 with the 416 and even his 440s still got be by 450s with bolt ons, so he recomended since there arent motor limits on series im running next year and they allow hybrids, he said to look into the trx450 swap or if i wanted to put alot of time into it to go for the ktm520 he said either of these would work great and that the ktm i could leave stock and while the 450 would need a little work (piston, cam, etc..)

Yeah, it is going to take a LOT of work to hang with a STOCK 450. You should get a 450 or do a hybrid like that guy said. You are better off buying a 450 rather than spending an arm and a leg just to keep up with a stock 450.

With the setup below, and the stock carb and head pipe. My quad pulls away from my buddies 05' 450R w/full exhaust, airbox lid modified, filter and one tooth down on the front sprocket. I beat him in drag races (sand or dirt) and top speed. This is with stock gearing on my quad and 20" tires.

Your reliability/power will go way out of wack with a 465cc just to keep up with a stock 450

i gonna go riding with protraxrptr17 soemtime soon maybe this weekend, take his ktm raptor hybrid for a spin and see really how much they are cracked up to be we maybe converting my 400 to ktm power over the winter if i can convince my dad that its the "only way to stay competitive on my EX" or more simply swap for a 450r

young grasshoppers.. when will you ever learn...

a 400ex wasnt made to go fast or be raced... it is a trail bike...
the 400ex was made for one purpose, and the 450r for another... it is much more efficient (time, economically, realiability wise, etc...) to just use each machine for what they are intended, instead of trying to convert the 400ex to the 450r use...

im in the process of a conversion because I was in the exact same shoes. Accept I had already spent 3k+ on motor work for the 400ex motor.

If you have a welder, some steel, and a local hardware store and automotove parts store. The swap is a cake walk. I'm in the process of swaping my motor over. The hardest part so far has been the rear shock resivor not cleering the engine. Solution = remote resivor rear shock.

im not done yet, Been busy latley. soon it will be running.

This pic was during a mock up, Everything is just sitting in place
