Not a herniated disc, no.

But I do have 3 crushed vertabrea from an injury (L2, L3, and T10). No surgury but I spend several months in a Jewitt brace and several more months in physical therapy.

What I've learned about my back injury is the importance of exercise, staying in shape, and keeping my core strong. The hardest part was finding the right amount of exercise. It took me a long time (years) to figure out what was too much and what was too little. Anything above or below a certain amount and it hurts everyday--keep it within a certain range and I can maintain zero pain.

Not sure if that applies to your situation but that's what I know about back injuries.

My mom had this last year, they had to perform surgery and "fuse her two discs together' to make them into one. She was out anywhere between 6-8 weeks and the first 6 weeks she wasn't supposed to ride in a car because of the back basically being broken, and in case the car was in a wreck. She got to be very good friends with the recliner.;)

I had just about the same thing 2 winters ago. Was unable to race that spring because of it. Mine was my left arm though, almost useless when I needed to pick something up or hold something. My doc recomended lots of physical theropy to try to stay away from fusing the two. I would suggest the same, I know a guy who had his fused together and he wish's he wouldn't have.

Its very easy to reinjure it until it totally heals also so be careful.

Physical theropy consists of an awsome massage every visit, heat pads before hand for about 20/30 minutes, then neck and back exercises.

Just had surgery on April 13. Had to get c6 & c7 fused. Surgery takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. First they tried the cortizone shots. Doc gave me two shots. A couple of weeks between each shot. That didnt stop the pain and numbness in my right arm and hand. So i had to have surgery. Make sure if you have this surgery that you have a good recliner at home. I think I slept there my first 3weeks home.I was feeling alot better but I started hurting again. Going to doc in the morning to find out if something is wrong. Nurse said on the phone that i could have turned wrong in my sleep and screwed something up. Try to do what ever they say. You may have to have surgery because you dont wont the nerve to stay pinched. It will cause worse problems down the road if you dont take care of it now.

thanks david i have both and know what you are going through. i haven't gone as far as seeing a specialist but i have 3 doctors telling me there is really nothing i can do for it other than take meds. i can have surgery but they do not recommend it for someone my age because i will most likely end up feeling worse. if it becomes completely unbearable, then they said to get the surgery. a co-worker of my fiancé had the same thing and went against the doctors and had the surgery. she said she feels a hundred times worse than she did prior to having the surgery. i am not big on taking meds so i grin and bear it. some days i don't have any pain unless i turn my head around to back out of a parking space. some days i can't turn my head at all without serious pain.

I dont have any in my neck, but I have one in my back. and the one above it is degenerative, the one below it is buldging....

If you have never had back pain then be reminded...take care of your back.
