I have found a few pretty cheap FCR carbs off of YFZ 450s. Needing a new carb, I have been looking at both these and the 450r carbs.... I do not want an Edelbrock, and the stock does not flow well enough (At all). Now, my question is: Is the YFZ 450 FCR quad is the same as any other FCR 39mm carb (As in the only, or fit the same), and does it work with the 400EX well? Any comments/ opinions/ answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

For the most part, an FCR is an FCR.

But there are different venturi diameters (39 is prolly the best choice for a 400EX of most any tune) as well as other variations. Some have TPSs, hot-starts, chokes, ACVs, etc. Some have leak jets, some don't. Some have throttle linkage covers, some don't.

Although I've never done what you're proposing, I'm pretty confident any appropriately sized FCR can be adapted successfully to a 400EX. Sudco sells FCR mount adapters of various sizes if it came to that.

There's a little more info on the Keihin FCR in THIS THREAD (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=230710).

Hope that helps.

Do you know where I could purchase one of the Sudco adapters? I asked C&D as I believe that I read somewhere that they have Sudco products. How much do the cost?

Sudco does do retail sales. You can place an order directly through them. They don't do online sales though so you'll have to call.

Their website is basic but their downloadable PDF catalog is comprehensive (hundreds of pages). The various available intake bells/adapters are in the catalog with measurements and whatnot. Whatever parts are used on their own FCR carb kits are probably the ones you'll need if the pieces on whichever FCR your working with aren't the right size.

I'd prolly get the carb and see how things line up before buying extra parts.

Keep us posted. If you go through with it I'll be curious to see how easy/hard the adaptation was.

This is a carb that I was looking at on ebay. What is the velocity stack/ horn? What all must I do for this to work on my EX, I am pretty sure that I will need an adapter....

I'm hesitent to give specific advice because I don't want to be wrong about something and have it cost you $$$.

Nonetheless, I *think* you'll need:

--thottle cables (don't know if your current cables will work--I'm guessing no).
--an air filter adapter to replace that velocity stack
--a mount adapter (the one that's on there may work fine, hard to say without trying it)
--various fuel and vent lines
--maybe a throttle stop/idle adjustment piece--I don't see one on there.
--jets (if you need a different jet needle that will add to the cost)

Here's an example of a Sudco air filter adapter. This piece would go where that velocity stack is. This particular one is for an FCR41 Suzuki DR650 application:

FCR mount adapters vary in these dimensions:

If you could get away with only needing the air filter adapter then that'll make things simpler and less costly.

It's probably best to talk to Sudco about what some of these parts are going to cost, add that to whatever that carb costs, and go from there.
