hey guys,
i just bought and rode a quad yesterday with a CT 350 non-pv mx ported with a CT midrange pipe. my first impression of it is that its powerband is like a thumper.

there is NO 2 stroke, light switch, arm stretching, eyeball popping, nitrous spray like HIT when you get into the higher revs just like my other bone stock midrange piped 89R and my 04 piped banshee.

WHAT HAPPENNED TO THE HIT?????IS THIS NORMAL????

dont get me wrong ..... the bike is fast and pulls really hard EXCEPT that it feels ... for the lack of a better word ... SMOOTH.

tell me what you 350R guys think .

p.s. i recently sold an 88 330R and that bike had that HIT.

Too funny!
I thought the same thing! 250rs dont have the "snap" banshees have. they are VERY smooth... although if you put a single 38 on a banshee it takes away the "snap" too.... NOTHING has the arm ripping hit like a built shee has.

It's because of the big, beefy piston. Put a cr ignition on the same quad, and hold the f%^k on.

It is because of several factors that go into play with a powerband. You can determine your powerband by the way you set it up. If you are going for nothing but a straight line then you will lose more usable power for trails and track but will be faster on dragging. For two strokes, with more radical ports the power becomes more like a two stroke and turbo charged motor where it will be more like a light switch. With the bigger bore of a two stroke you will automatically gain more torque and low end stock but the way the motor is set up is the main factor. I have ridden tons of light switch Banshees and R's and especially with R's, it all depends on the way you set it up and your riding style you prefer. The best of both worlds for torque while still allowing to port it more radical without losing all low end is a powervalve. With these you can still port it for more topend while still preserving some low end for more usable power on the track.

i am planning to install an esr ignition kit and a bigbore pipe (either CT or LRD) when i get some $$$.

do you guys think i can get the "SNAP" back in the powerband even though i got MX port work ?

Its all in how the cylinder is ported.
What you have now is a cylinder thats ported & matched up with the proper pipe & carb combination for a more controlable power delivery. Thats how a 250R should be, grunt & go

You could get the "SNAP" in that engine by reporting the cylinder & then changing the pipe to match.

what would be involved in re-porting a mx ported cylinder to a TT style power band (mid to top end) with the "SNAP/HIT" in the mid range ?

what brand/type of pipe/silencer combination that is STILL available that i can get to match ?

More or less your just reporting the cylinder to drag port spects & get the ESR TRX11 pipe or a CT whale.
To me though the TRX11, the stingers not big enough DIA. Its built like that to hold heat & increase the power output higher in the rpms. CTs whale pipe, on the other hand the stingers the right size but its odd built, in the way everytime you try to start the engine, works good though.
CT has another pipe set up for the big bores, has a center jointing point just like a LRD pipe but is quite a bit bigger than a LRD, even a bigger mid section than the ESR TRX5.
Allen wont tell many people about that pipe, I guess because it realy dont look that good, matter a fact after I ordered it, me & the guy that paid for it both said god its ugly, but it works well on a 350PV. Got a good bark sound & when she gets on the pipe you better have her pointed in the right direction & holding on cause that front ends comming up.

hey neil,

would just changing the pipe to say, CT whale pipe, plus a 39mm PWK carb create a NOTICEABLE difference in the powerband ?

the ct midrange i got in it is beat up and the carb wont let the motor idle well so im thinking to replace both soon.

let me know what you think please .

Changing those two things might not give you a power increase allover, but would change the hit or light switch somewhat to like what your asking for. I dont know what the porting spects are in your cylinder but I'm sure it would change how the engine responds.

cheers scott

yes,i went to the cr250 ignition setup and its revs just as fast as a mx bike.it may have a tendency to stall until you get use to the lighter flywheel but its a good upgrade imo.mine is pretty much stock as far as the cylinder goes and it rips,it definately has hit;)

as my bro 13 has a 660 RAPTOR THAT LEAVES MY BIKE IN THE DUST WELL NOT IN THE DUST BUT IT BEATS IT HE HAS a fmf power bomb ,a amr monster ignition coil ,boyseen reeds ricky stator stator ,k&n filter no air box ,and a procom cdi or ecu not sure what it is called
what will i need in my r to beat no wait smoke it but runing pump gas .
i have v force 3 reeds 38 mil airstryker 89 pt race pipe ,uni air filter and thats it on a stock r cylinder
i will soon be gettin a esr cr ignition for it
also away to build a stroker motor 370 when esr finnaly get back to me about shipping a 5 mill stroker to the uk .
what u guys recon will a 370 be big enough:blah:
