Would you trade?

I have an offer to trade my 00 ex for an 01 or 02 660 raptor bored to 686. My ex is stock except a slip on pipe, k&n filter, & nerf bars. I do mostly trail riding, and was planing to do a 426 or 440 upgraded this winter for more power. Im going to check out the rappy tonight to see what else is done to it.
But does this seem like a good trade or should I just upgrade my ex?

Defiantely keep the 400ex and upgrade. You would me downgrading if you traded IMO.

man... if the 686 is in good shape and well taken care of... i would hands down take it over the 400ex... my buddy has a 686 and it freaking screams!!!

Is it too much power? I do a lot of trail riding. I just dont want to accidently blip the throttle and flip it over. lol

Don't get me wrong, it should fly. But, I would rather have a reliable machine that is a great, if not the best, trail quad...for the average joe anyway.

If it's an 01 raptor, skip the trade. If it's an 02, you'd be goofy not to take it and run.

keep the 400 ive rode with a rappy and it is tippy, hadles like crap, not to much more power then my 406, the top end isnt that much better then the 400 and u cant beat the 400's reliability.

just depends on personel preferance. id be up in the air the 400 a good reliable bike but the raptor has reverse. both good bike i beleive the 400 is a better bike for trails but then through the reverse in and you got a dilema

IMO, 400EXs are okay.. but I'd rather have a Raptor any day of the week. Ride it, if you like it then trade.

^^^yep, the 660 will easily out perform the 400ex. Just try it out, to see if it is right for you.

almost traded my 400ex for a beautiful raptor...but the guy said it wouldnt be worth his while to buy a 400ex because it would be "downgrading", and he said nah... I was bummed.

Don't buy a raptor if your not a confident rider... It's kind of scarey at first...

deffinitly do it man for sure, u would love it, raptors are torque monsters i have a 2001 and i ahven't had any big problems with it just the usuall maintinence stuff. yes the 2001 raptors had tranney problems but not all of them some are fine but most of the ones that did have problems had it fixed under warrenty so if it's an 01 just ask him about the tranney if it has been fixed and if not just take it for a spin to see how it feels shifting. they are a little bit more tippy but it just takes a little more body english, just flip the front rims and get wheel spacers or an axel for the rear and you'll have a wicked quad.

I think the Raptor is a nice bike minus the 01.I had an 01 a few years back and rode my buddies 400 ex and what a difference.I think the raptors are very reliable other than the 1way starter bearing and the common 2nd gear problem on the 01!!!

Honestly...I wouldn't trade. I was offered a 2002 Raptor 660 for my 400ex and I didn't think twice about turning him down.

The 400ex will be better for trails, handle better, and be more reliable. I have not been impressed with the 660's...

the only thing i really found better about the 400ex is the handling. the 660 raptor engine is overkill, its powerful as hell, and its water cooled. that, i like.

if you were gonna make it into a 440 or what not in the winter to tell you the truth you should stick with your ex..cuz the 440 will be fast enough to beat alot of other atvs and if hes done that much work to it that you know of and maybe more for all you could know you get it home and ride it and its a dud...but the over all choice is yours thats JMO:o

just a quick ? how much power did you gain by making it a 406.not to bash you but just asking.if your gonna pay for it why not go higher.apart from messing with the reliability.
