i have a 265R with about 10 hours on the entire motor it has a ct265 pro cross cylinder on it. i was wondering about how long these motors go for if taken care of properly and synthetic oils run through them. I trail ride and MX with it and i would like to know when i should expect to be thinking of a rebuild. also what would a full rebuild cost, and what about just the top end? Who to send this motor to? And its an 86 motor so im not sure what type of piston it would require. there is NO spacer on the motor either. Thanks, Im new to the 250R and would like to know these things for the future

just depends dude...

part depends on what your current set up is... how well it was put together, how well it was broken in, what kind of compression you are running... i think a lot of compression puts a lot of stress on it, and therefore wears out quicker... JMO...

unless you blow the bottom end, i wouldnt mess with it...

as far as a new top end... assuming you dont blow it up and just want to rebuild it...

$125 for piston, wrist pin, rings...
$13 for wrist pin bearing
$20 for head o-rings
$10 for base gasket

a couple bucks for assembly lube and what not... and assuming you wanna hone it or not, another $30 or so... if you dont do it yourself, i would bet labor would be upwards of $200...

ps... now if you were to blow it up...

depending on what set up you have...

could be 50 or so to bore it, but if you have to get it re-nickasealed, expect to be around 200 for that... and if somn breaks loose and chews up your dome, expect another 60 for that...

I have a 265 ,and a 330 I have over 90hrs on both of them. so if you stay on keeping a CLEAN air filter and mix your oil right they last.:D

CRYO EVERYTHING. then if you take care of it it can last up to 3 times as long.

My 250r with a stock cylinder bored .010 over has to have atleast 30-40 hours on the top end already, I bought the motor with 10 hours on it. As for the bottom end, no clue how much time is on it, but it's been runnin stong. If your 265 is lacking in power like you said, I would check the compression in the motor. It might be time for new rings.

no no this thing is not losing power by any means, it HAULS but i was just wondering when i should expect it to slow down a bit. anyways yea whats cryo? and this motor would just require a standard 86 style piston from wiseco correct?

My bad, somewhere in one of your posts I miss read it. I don't know exactly what kryo is, but it makes the part stronger.

Cryo is freezing the parts at 300 degrees below zero for a certain amout of time. This is similar to heat treating a metal part. It releeves stress and makes the part extremely durable.

Mine is an original stock jug and it has only been rebuilt once since 1988, and that was by me. I've got about 150 hours into it now, I don't record but it has to be around that because I ride it for at least an hour every day, and every once and a while I go and ride all day.
