i just put a new clutch in my 86 and rebuilt the entire motor, when i had the motor apart, i could shift it at the drum, but after i put the motor all the way back together with a new clutch and springs, it will not shift, and the clutch will barely engage adjusted all the way out. what do i need to do? i put a barnett clutch and springs in it. do i need a new clutch rod? or what could the problem be?

Did you have the cases split? when you put the case halfs together did you make sure the shifter shaft stayed on the ratchet? I always make sure to keep a finger holding that on when I put one together. You can dump it a hair and it'll miss the hole when you try and shift.

As for the clutch stock you should of had pushrod going through the shaft and then a top hat looking job with a beebee looking bearing in it. Did you put that back together right?

youd have # 14, 28, and #11 in yours stock. Unless someone put an 89 update were you would have 14,24,&10

just double check I'm sure it was just something minor you missed

There is a small ball in the 86 clutch that rides at the end of the clutch rod. When you take it apart it usually stays up inside the clutch rod bearing holder(behind the pressure plate) and can fall out if you don't know that it is there.
Take the pressure plate back off and see if it is there...if it's not there, the clutch will not engage.
