I used ratella in my 350 raptor and it worked fine. I got a yfz450 now and it makes the clutches slip pretty bad. Why is this?

you cant put regular oil in a quad.it eats the clucthes up. that is why it is slippin.it needs to be for a quad or bike.

How would it eat the clutches up? In the 450r owners manuel it says use 10w40 oil for both sides. Rekluse recommends using Rotella when using their clutch in the 450r.

Please do searches on this topic. You cant use synthetic car oil in your wet clutch systems, althought many people right on this site have had good luck with them (althought I believe they uprgraded to stiffer clutch springs)

If you can get hooked up with klotz then get it, it is a GREAT oil, I've used it in nearly all of my quads, and a lot of pros use it. very good stuff.

For 2 - Stroke Gas mix Oil I always used Yamalube, Just as good as any aftermarket. I heard Klotz wasn't as good, at least thats what they say on the banshee forums.

As for Tranny or 4-stroke oil I would go with Maxima.

As for all you Ams Oil ppl, I HATE the stuff. I went through 3 Clutches cuz of the stuff. The stuff is almost too good. I Went through 3 clutches, they all slipped but no friction plate wear?? hmm so I switched maxima oil and wayla no more problems.

AMSOIL IS VERY GOOD SO IS MOTUL. I HAVE USED BOTH. I DO LIKE AMSOIL BETTER AFTER GOING THROUGH MY FRIENDS SUZUKI RM250 AFTER THREE DESERT RACES AND FOUND THE ENGINE STILL HAD MANY OF THE ORIGINAL MILL MARKS.

BUT, I GUESS ANY OIL IS PRETTY GOOD AS LONG AS YOU CHANGE IT OUT FREQUENTLY.

I use amsoil in every motor i own. you can go to amsoil's website and sign up as a prefered customer, it cost 10 bucks every 6 months and its worth it. i get 0w40 AFF for the predator, like 6.35 a quart, or 69 for a case. and they also have oil filters for most sport quads. I use the 5w30 in my wifes car and in my truck.as well as amsoil oil filters. the car oils are a 25,000 mile oil change interval, so i sace way more than the 10 dollar preferred cutomer fee there, plus i also use amsoil in the tranny on my blaster, as well as thier interceptor pre mix

"Regular" oil does not "eat up" your clutches. However, many automotive oils (that are not intended for wet clutch use) contain what are called friction modifiers, such as molybdenum and graphite. Those can (in theory) plug up the friction plates and allow slippage. But I have ran moly oils in some pretty high-torque bikes without any slippage problems.

Mobil 1 now makes an oil specifically for 4 stroke ATVs and bikes, which does not contain any moly or graphite, and does contain zinc and phosphorous, which are used in bikes to help protect the gearbox. That's what I have been running since they came out with it.
