i want to make my 400ex as fast as some 450s and i dont have much money to spend. i want a piston but i dont wan to go for a 440 kit b/c i heard they blow up easy.
i also saw a 416 kit with a stage 2 cam in gwc.


i have a full pipe k&n and jets.

please help me
only looking to spend about 500-1000 bucks.

Here is your problem. You arn't going to catch them without some considerable cash. It is possible to spend over $500 to hang with a stock 450R with an average rider, but if they have any mods, or are anything better than an average rider you are toast.

yup, my brother has port and polish, 426, high comp. piston, rev box, pipe, jet, airbox lid off, K&N filter. he is about 8-10 bike lengths behind me in 100yd drag. but I do have some mods

Remember, when you get a 416 or 440 or any oversize kit, you have to send your cylinder in to have the oversized sleeve installed. It shouldn't cost over $50, but it's just something for you to remember while shopping for a kit. Some kits include resleeve in their price, you just send it to the company you buy the kit from and they install the sleeve. It will say in the details whether this is included.

There's no question you will need to go up in bore to beat them... For drag racing??

You could go with nitrous. :p Heavy use might kill the motor pretty quick though [shrug]. But hey, if you want get close to 450s on minimal $$ your options are few indeed.

This is the only way I know of to get a 40-45hp 400EX for $700.

ummm....no........

you dont need a new sleeve until you get to a 88mm, which is a 426, and even then you dont HAVE to have a new sleeve, but its a good idea because of the heat and the thin sleeve. getting a new sleeve with a 416 is like throwin your money in the toilet....its a complete waste

for $20 you can get an advanced timing key from sparks racing. That will help your bottom and midrange.
